Fellow rentcels assemble, Tell me how things have been near you in terms of renting.

I hate being a rentcel so damn much, especially in a HCOL area. I am moving apartments next month and it reminded me how much im being cucked. Below are specs of the old and new places:

old:

Stand alone house - street parking - 2nd floor apartment 1600/mo
2bed/1bath 760 ft2 - decent place quality wise but tired finishes all around. Basement for storage
Landlord was a cool person but sucked ass when it came to fixing the place. He doesnt want me to fix anything myself but at the same time he wont fix anything I ask him to fix. I have spent the last 3 years complaining about a toilet that doesn't flush, I spend 5 minutes a day trying to flush my poop. Simple QOL things that add up to a ton of time over a year.

New:

Stand alone house - 2 car driveway - Half duplex (Split down middle) 1700/mo
2bed/1bath 1050ft2 + full height unfinished basement - Updated with cheaper finishes but clean overall. Only downside is that the kitchen is lacking some serious cabinet space but it has the floor space for more if we wanted to install some. Massive yard that I get use of.
Landlord is a friend of mine, doesn't mind me fixing things that need fixing (he will pay for materials as long an I clear it with him first) and already showed initiative in fixing whatever issues we pointed out on the walk through.
Same town as my old place, just a few miles down the road, so no difference in commute for me.

Either way I look at it, I am being cucked, its just this new place is slightly less so. I looked around and rent prices have gone up like 25%-35% in the last 2 years, it insane what people are asking for these days. If you wanted a newer condo with similar space it would be 2200-2500/mo without any yard space. Our short term goal is to stack as much cash as possible over the next year and make our escape to anywhere but NJ. Until then I need to keep being a cuck for my landlord. Hows it been near you misc? Absolutely crazy as well?

This place was listed for 2k/mo but I am getting a break since its one of my boys. I am around 50-60 minutes from NYC, CNJ is how I would describe it. This place isnt anything to write home about finishes wise, if you made this place look like a HGTV house it would be like 2.5k/mo, 3k if you had a fixed up backyard too. The town isnt the best ( low income Spanish neighborhood but has been getting nicer)but with the NYC covid move out I guess people are looking further away.

god damn, how much is a detached rental cost? how much are you paying for the amenities on a place like that? NYC metro is cucked, its not getting better too.

Sold my paid off house in May for twice what I paid for it. I got the house in the divorce in 12/2019.

Leased a three level 1,100 sq ft townhouse with a garage for $2,100 a month.

Hate sharing walls with people. I actually hate everyone.

Looking forward to buying a house again next year.

Rental market here is pretty stable although now 3 bedroom townhomes are going for $2200.

My four bedroom with a yard detached is $2450 because I moved in three years ago and hope I don't have to leave anytime soon.

Major city in Canada but the house I'm in would cost $1000 more a month to buy due to the market.

GJDM, profit is nice. What area if you dont mind me asking? I lived in apartments my whole life, srs. I dont know what its like not having shared walls. Its been a dream of mine for my entire life to buy a house, wish we could stay in NJ but between sky-high taxes and BS gun laws, I dont see a future here. We are close from a savings perspective and we have a few areas picked out, its just about finding the right job in those areas. Finding that new job is the goal for this next year, once that happens, its time for a new start.

Ive spent a bunch of time in Calgary, Edmonton and Toronto for work, the housing prices have always been lulzy to look at up there but I guess its even worse now. Not too many places to go in Canada if you are looking for city life, puts a ton of demand on commutable housing.

Turned it into a rental in 2018 and have had the same tenant in there paying $1200/mo. Her rent is about $400 less than market rate, but she is very clean, pays early and is really easy to work with so I will leave her be. There are 1br apartments in my area renting for $1600+ which is crazy expensive. It gets even more $$$ the closer you get to old town Scottsdale. 2bd/2ba apartments are well over $2,000/mo in the east valley.

I bought a home here in 2018 for around $400k, probably worth right now around $650k ded srs. I don't know what my house would rent for (3bd/2ba) but it would be close to $3k/mo. If you bought ANY real estate in Phoenix or Scottsdale, your property values are up AT LEAST 30% since covid popped off.

If anyone knows this area, my goal is to buy a house in DC Ranch up in N. Scottsdale. Great views, excellent neighborhood, cooler temps ... das it mane.
most of my family lives in Phx, my grandparents moved there in the 50s and have been making a killing on their real estate since. My dad bought a house near Peoria for 300k in late 2019 and its at the low 4's now. I know the city well. The place your looking at is up against the McDowell range, right? I love Scottsdale its a dope part of Phx.

Chit def sucks tho. Paying $2.4k for a good location 1br in Boston. Happy enough with the place though could have better T access and the heat can be wonky (swear it fluctuates between 60 and 80 degrees sometimes).

Dunno if I'll re-rent, but need to figure out my options. Fk roommates and fk not actually access to the city so I may be SOL.

Yeah must be brutal for some. Im raising my rents in Austin 25% at the end of the leases many of which are in January. Im interested to see how the tenants react. Im not trying to bend them over, just need to be at market......

Housing prices in Ontario are out of control. Basically same as Vancouver ten years ago. Now the foreign investors have invaded Ottawa and Halifax and prices have almost doubled in the past three years. There was a lineup for a new block of 1.6 million houses just outside Toronto just last week. I have no idea who's buying them because nobody who lives/works here can afford them. I want our government to start heavily taxing foreign owners and also people who own multiple units but nothing yet.

SOL seems to be the case for renters these days. I know I am complaining about 1600 a month in rent but 5 years ago it would have been 1200 at most.

25% jump is brutal, I doubt anyone is seeing 25% increases in pay. Obviously business is business and it cant be personal, but still sucks all around.

Fuark at these prices. Pay less than $900 (mortgage+prop tax+Insurance) for an almost 1300 sq ft house in Columbus Ohio.

How was the change for you? The wife and I like the Pittsburg area, we both think we are ready for a bit slower lifestyle overall.

From the landlord’s perspective, I have a number of houses that are awaiting demolition

Wife sticks ridiculous rental prices on them, i tell her there is no way anyone is going to rent a house that is falling over for that price, and sure enough it’s rented within an hour of listing

Feel embarrassed when the rental payment hit the account tbh

Well I did just move into my poverty 1 bdrm apartment but it’s 1400$ for a 450sqft 1 bdrm and 150$ for my own garage parking.

That’s the cheapest I could find. San Diego’s average rent is close to the BA now , it’s almost 3k a month.

Biden’s America.

I live in the ghetto part of north park by the 805 and border normal heights and city heights.

SD brahs know the area.
