Apparently the money has now been returned to him. Seriously who drives around with 87 grand on them? Just makes you look like a drug dealer, has he never heard of a bank?

this vet thinks he was fighting for American freedom by bombing random Iraqis, only to get a wakeup call that his own country isn't as free as he thought.

If you heard somebody was driving around with 87 grand your first thought would be drug smuggler.

Why does this never happen to escorts/prostitutes? They make a lot of money, they carry around large amounts of cash, they put lots of cash into safe deposit boxes instead of bank accounts to avoid IRS alerts, they travel to different states across the country, they can't prove where they got the money from, so how do they not get robbed of money from cops? Honestly would anyone feel bad if a prostitute got robbed like this? Instead they rob veterans like this guy.

Flawless logic

My first thought when I see a redneck in a nice truck is "meth lab". Can I take his truck until he proves to me that he didn't get it through illicit means?

yeah same with all those shady Asian 'massage parlors'. Everyone knows they're fronts for human trafficking, illegal immigrants, and prostitution but they don't get raided as often as they should be. Maybe the cops are customers, or get paid off in bribes.

So the guy was fully cooperating with the police, freely admitted to having 87k in cash, had the bank receipts, allowed them to search his vehicle and they still took all of it because "it was weird" and something with the dog.

His status as a veteran has nothing to do with this, but those cops are complete idiots. Dude should sue the fuk out of them and get a million in return like if he invested it all in Tesla.

Civil asset forfeiture is ridiculous and needs to be significantly changed. You shouldn't be able to take money from someone without any due process.

Survival. When the jungle tears itself down and builds itself into something new. Guys like you and me, we end up dead. Doesn’t really mean anything. Or, if we happen to live through it, well that doesn’t mean anything either.

I was looking at a local drug raid pic from around here where they do a picture of the drugs/guns/money they took from the guy and it struck me as ****ed up that they can take the cash.. like drugs or guns if you're committing a crime with them I can see, but to put someone's money out like it's a trophy that you confiscated still seems like stealing. Dude made that money through willing transactions, isn't right pigs can just take that chit.

If it's part of a larger drug sales case, then the cash is part of the evidence of the crime. They can't (shouldn't) seize small amounts of cash, but tons of money that's pretty obviously related to the crime counts as evidence compared to personal cash. I agree though there should be stricter rules on currency confiscation. Should be released (with interest) if people are cleared of charges.

Those places get watched, raided, and broken up all the time. It's probably one of the most common operations in a good portion of American cities. Police can't do anything about illegal immigrants though.

I'm curious why they stopped him because it was not for the stated reason. They knew he had that money somehow.

and lol at the drug dog BS; they knew exactly what the outcome was they wanted and the dog is just a pre-planned excuse as always

The system partly worked in that he got his money back but failed in that those who did it should be without jobs now and the victim was not compensated for the trouble he was put through.

...

On a side note it's simply yet another reminder that government budgets(and thus size and scope and personnel) from the local to the national level need to be drastically cut back. That's the real thing that needs to be focused on in a lot of stories that are talked about lately. The bigger the government budget, the closer to tyranny and totalitarianism you get.

Of course these shady ****ers did that to him. Glad he got his money back but should’ve never even happened when he had receipts. It’d be somewhat suspicious if he didn’t have them, but even then that’s just fukked up.
