My experience with toy cap guns (auscell) tellls me pulling and dropping the hammer is equivalent to pulling the trigger. The trigger pulls and drops the hammer.

The odds of a factory revolver hammer falling as soon as it's cocked, no trigger pull, are like getting struck by lightening.

Maaaaybe it could go off if some dumb fuk had been monkeying with the trigger, but we know for damn sure armorerbrah wasn't that capable, and her friends running around shooting prop guns in the desert don't strike me as educated gunsmiths either.

Yeah, that's very possible. You're basically pulling the trigger like you're firing the gun, but catching the hammer with your thumb. People do it all the time, but it's a fine motor action that can definitely be fukked up, and if you fuk up that gun is going off.

Shooters usually know that's one of the most likely scenarios to fuk up with a gun. It's like driving your car at night or through fog, kind of a high-alert situation. So they always point the gun at the ground or at least away from other people while they do it. Baldwin's not a shooter though.

I've been shooting single action revolvers for many years. It's not hard to wear down the notches on a single action hammer if you don't know how to handle it or it's been dropped. In proper working order, de-cocking the gun without having your finger on the trigger will result in the hammer stopping in the safety notch. If that notch is broken, the hammer is going down all the way. You do have to pull the trigger to start the hammer on its way down from full-cock.

I have had the hammer slip out from under my thumb while trying to de-cock it and have a ND once. I had been shooting a bit and my thumb was getting chewed up, so I put a bandaid on it. The hammer slipped off the bandaid fabric.

As for the live round, no idea. The person in charge of the gun, Ms. Reed, is the daughter of Thell Reed, one of the best single action revolver shooters of the 20th century so she should have known what she was doing. Just got careless I suspect.

So, in handling the gun, he did something that caused it to fire. Of course, he's right in asking where the bullet came from, but the gun didn't just fire by itself.
