Halo Infinite Reviews

Metacritic 87:https://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox...nfinite?ref=hp
Opencritic 86, 94% of critics recommend:https://opencritic.com/game/12088/halo-infinite/reviews

Good start to the Series X/S's Year 2. There is a very high chance that Microsoft will be 2020's publisher of the year on metacritic.

Game seems to be a good example of this Miyamoto quote. Glad MS pushed the game a year. “A delayed game is eventually good (in this case), but a rushed game is forever bad.”

"343 finally got it right. this might be the best Halo has ever played"

Some people have voiced concern that the design is just far cry but that doesn't seem to be the case. It's not complete open world, it's "wide linear": "halo infinite shares more with something like crysis in terms of level design and pacing, instead of far cry". The "open world" sections are more inspired by the original Halo's second mission, where you go around rescuing marines in a non-linear level. So essentially there are various "open sections" with side missions to do, that also contain indoor levels within them that are more linear in structure.

Really excited to hear the soundtrack. Heard it's the best and reminiscent to when Marty was writing music in the Bungie days. I posted the entire soundtrack below but I'm not listening to it until after I play the game.
joel corelitz worked on the death stranding soundtrack
gareth coker was responsible for the Ori soundtracks

In regards to the multiplayer: "make no mistake, halo infinite is basically a spiritual successor to Halo 3"... wow that's so crazy, because a user here kept telling me how it's nothing like halo 3 and was halo 5.2 and 343 sucks and infinite is bad because of leadership changes the last few years and because 343. But I just kept seeing all these other previews and reviews comparing the multiplayer to an evolution of halo 3's. How can that be? crazy stuff.

I love read that they’re milking the fuk out of people with the micro transactions though. You can’t access/customize the games( it’s all random), and they seemingly gutted parts of the game prior to release.

I’m more of a campaign guy myself so I’ll wait to see some gameplay and reviews from regular folks since the more popular reviewers seem to be paid for good reviews even if the game is super ****ty.

Pretty annoyed it won't have co-op at launch. Been doing a co-op playthru with a brah on every game for like 20 years now.

I've been really enjoying the multiplayer though.

I'm having a real hard time figuring out why it matters that they have microtransactions for the cosmetic items, or why people care so much about the customization. You can't even see your own character in game most of the time lol.

No filtered game modes doesn't bother me but I know it may irritate others that want to stick to just one type of play. I kind of like the shuffle and know it will help avoid running into problems where everyone online just does Slayer rather than anything else, may overall help keep the online community active.

Overall I really enjoy the multiplayer, it's fun and well put together - Which unfortunately seems rare these days for new video games...

Seems like the only complaint is that because Guardians wrote themselves into a corner the story gets a little muddled but the interplay between Chief, Cortana, "the Weapon", and Halsey is fantastic. Pretty excited for this one honestly.

I'm pretty hyped for the campaign, gunna be perfect to play thru coop. The mp has me completely convinced they are doing the right things in halo Infinite. The gameplay from campaign I've seen looks fun too.

The multiplayer, imo, is halo 3 gunplay with armor features. I think in ranked the set up is perfect. Br start with much more strategic use of weapon spawns and armor power ups. Br fights feel pretty good. The sliding is great too, adds a touch of flair to movement. Coming from apex I think movement makes the game slot more fun and interesting.

The armor abilities are exactly what halo needed to modernize itself imo. I don't think I'd nearly enjoy it as much without the dynamic of armor power ups and weapon combos. The grappling hook is by far the most fun addition to this franchise and adds sooooo much more potential for fun plays. Same with that shield thing that you can jump and block/reflect with.

The collision needs work tho, and they desperately need a rejoin for ranked gameplay. Random crashing in ranked then losing a ton of progress is a real buzz kill. Esp cause if it happens multiple times you end up with a timeout from queuing.

They will add more game modes as time goes on, I think they will listen to what people want. I mostly play ranked anyways which is fine imo

No filtered game modes would be fine by me if they didn't make a bunch of challenges that require you to complete games in specific modes. It's pretty annoying when you need to do CTF and get 4 oddball games in a row.

Ahh yes, IGN high scores. I'll definitely let IGN tell me what games are good and which aren't.

You mean to tell me that the studio that drove the franchise into the ground had to be restructured (i.e. heads of departments changed) because the game was so amazing? The only way Halo Infinite is like Halo 3 is that they both have "Halo" in the name. Lol'd @ spiritual successor. Sounds like that quote was written by someone who never even played Halo 3.

If paying for reviews was a common practice for big IP's and games from rich publishers, then games like Battlefield 2042, Fallout 76, Sea of Thieves, Anthem, Metroid Other M, COD Vanguard, Mass Effect Andromeda, The Order 1886, GTA trilogy would have much higher reviews. Not to mention that that sort of practice would eventually leak and do a lot of damage to both publications as well as devs/publishers.

That being said, it's understandable to wait for reviews from independent journalists or youtubers. There are already a bunch of previews from them out there, and it's pretty much been in line with reviews from larger publications (overall positive impressions).

NGL the only other Halo I ever played was CE and that was just in a couple helpdesk LAN parties back in the day, so I came into Infinite without a lot of background as to what to expect out of a Halo game.

Anyway I still like it personally

Nothing wrong with enjoying it, I've played a little bit of it myself.

It just feels more like CoD Halo (Halo 5) than Bungie Halo (Halo 1-3). And I like my Halo to feel like Halo.

Its free if you have gamepass (which pretty much every Xbox player has at this point) and the multiplayer gun play is phenomenal. Why not just give it a shot?

Because he wants to b*tch about it instead.

Game doesn't feel at all like COD to me, and this coming from a guy who plays warzone with my buddies couple times a week.

Yea, IGN isn't some monolith that one should solely base their opinion on. But I literally led my post with the opencritic (86, 94% of reviewers recommended, 107 reviews) and metacritic (87, 69 reviews) , and posted other reviews (including from independent youtubers). I never expected one to base their decision off one single review (or 2, since IGN split campagin and multiplayer between 2 reviews and reviewers). It's cool you don't like the game despite it being received well.

I think a team that has done poorly in the past can take feedback into account, grow, improve and do well in the future. It's kind of a fallacy to say because 343 has fumbled (big time) in past games, that it's proof that Infinite is bad. Same with the development for Infinite being very rocky with the leadership changes and delay. Of course that was reason to be concerned about the game. But it definitely isn't any sort of evidence that means the game is bad upon release. Seeing reasons for concern and dev hell does not equate to the game being bad upon release.

The quote about multiplayer was actually from Act Man. He has been extremely critical of 343 in the past and has multiple halo videos. He has played Halo 3. And it wasn't the only comparison to 3 that I saw, and neither is this next quote. Gamesradar said "Halo Infinite feels like a sequel to Halo 3 in all but name".

I think the only reason why I trust these reviews, is because content creators have been bashing and trashing the multiplayer, but have come out and stated the campaign is phenomenal. No need to lie about campaign when they are already dragging multiplayer through the mud.

Halo Infinite would be game of the year tier 90%+ metacritic if they actually released the full game at launch

Imagine if they had forge, co-op and full multiplayer game modes

No doubt it's the cream of the crop when it comes to FPS. No other game has a better combat loop. The perfect blending of guns, grenades, and melee, with a floaty movement, longer TTK, diverse sandbox that includes seamless vehicular integration, and good weapon catalogue.

Halo is cut from that OG arena shooter cloth, that Doom/Quake style. I've always held that these types of arena shooters were of a higher quality than battlefield/COD shorter TTK ones.

Gotta admit I wasn't really following it, or planning on playing it at all after the whole Craig meme debacle but the MP was free so I gave it a shot. First match I was not super impressed (team glow irked me, cant pick playlists etc).

Now after playing for 10+ hours I'm loving it. They got rid of the stupid loadouts, put weapons/special items/field control back as part of the game, AR start instead of BR start (although its br start in ranked), sprint included - could go either way on this one. It's everything I remembered loving about 3 when I played it. I played some of Reach and i dont think I played any 4/5 but MCC BR starts was the worst. It completely ruins the state of the game when you can start getting hit when you spawn no matter where you are on the map.

I dont care about any of the battle pass/customization drama I'll be plain ol' classic green forever for all I care. I do wish there was slayer only/ranked slayer list, sometimes I'm just not in the mood for objective type matches. Also split screen, coop and forge being missing for the campaign release kind of annoying but I think the latter 2 come out at some point

I don't like the whole sentiment of "console wars" at all and think they are kind of dumb. But I do think MS is showing how much better they can be this past year compared to last gen, their first party games have reviewed really well.

It's not a zero sum game.
winning a console war means different things to different people, some care for games, some will point out sale figures, whatever they do, these fanboys will find a way to make their console the best console..

neutral take

microsoft has handled the software/games better than sony so far in the early ps5/series-x era (2021)... as long as sony stays on track (no game delays) with releases in 2022, ps5 should have a big year in 2022..
