So I grew up thinking cursive writing...
Was required on checks that I wrote. I went to a fancy private school through 8th grade and had learned cursive like in 1st grade and that is all we used all throughout my years there.
So, after growing up and becoming an adult with a check book and actually forgetting how to properly write cursive I struggled with every check I wrote for years to make it look correctly written in cursive.
Until about 2 years ago I discovered it was completely not necessary to write checks in cursive and hardly anybody in the world uses it.

Have you seen the average person’s handwriting? It’s egregious.
Literally every single time I have to write something, I have people tell me “you have great handwriting” or something to that effect. In high school, I was sitting next to this HBB and she said “your handwriting is beautiful”. I nervously laughed and said “y-y-you too”
(Okay, I didn’t say that. But the rest is true)

I'll bet you're one of the ones who hates parallel parking being on driver's tests too because "you'll never use it in your life".
It's not about changing your writing style or it being 100% suitable for every day use. It's about being educated and understanding writing's history, as well as developing the motor function memory and skill set of someone who is capable of presentable handwriting. As opposed to chit that looks like it was written by a toddler. As a professional in a professional setting, it's an immediate red flag for me when someone's handwriting looks like they had a fuking seizure and were drooling on the page as it took them 5 minutes to write one sentence.
It's not about changing your writing style or it being 100% suitable for every day use. It's about being educated and understanding writing's history, as well as developing the motor function memory and skill set of someone who is capable of presentable handwriting. As opposed to chit that looks like it was written by a toddler. As a professional in a professional setting, it's an immediate red flag for me when someone's handwriting looks like they had a fuking seizure and were drooling on the page as it took them 5 minutes to write one sentence.
