Small business brahs, what's it like hiring your first employee?

Part of me wants the additional help but the other part doesn't want to deal with interviewing, paying someone, dealing with insurance, possible drama, mistakes, etc.

I guess it's different if you already have several employees but when you're about to hire the first one, that person can really make or break it for you if they fuk up or decide to leave or whatever since they're now half of the staff.

I'm doing fine how I am now, just juggling the idea.

Exactly what I was feeling, figured I'd ask in case I was missing something. Plus I'd be essentially making less to pay them in hopes that longer term I can drum up more business but unless it's a family member or something, I don't see myself going that route.

I was trying to acquire a small but profitable company this week, he only has 3 employees, ended up not selling the company to me because he didn't feel right about selling to an out of state company and not taking care of his workers. I said if they wanted to move I would keep them on. So this guy couldn't sell and retire because he felt too guilty about letting 3 people go. LOL, ****ing fail.
I worked in sell side M&A so I've seen owners get cold feet and crater deals over the slightest things. It's a shame.

I see your point though in regards to employees being like children. I don't want the responsibility tbh. I'm okay where I'm at and would rather not add headaches to my life. I appreciate the insight man.
