Miscers that lift, thoughts on safety squat bar?

I've been hesitant to buy a safety squat bar in the past because I didn't feel there was a need and the straight bar was good enough.

However, squat is my weakest lift. Is there any advantage to dropping $200 and getting one?

I'm looking at this one

Makes it feel more like a "leg press" if that makes any sense.

Biggest benefit is to people who have mobility issues or general problems getting their hands where they're needed on a straight bar, or keeping their back tight.

They're nice and I like them, but I don't necessarily think it'll immediately improve your squat.

Go down in weight. Work on your form. Just saved you $200.

It's a great tool, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. It's benefical to both powerlifters and bodybuilders. I prefer SSB over straight bar.

It's good for people who have shoulder and elbow problems, or as a nice little break to recover those areas. You'll feel the bulk of the weight on your upper back as the weight distribution is shifted slightly. It's more of a extreme version of a high-bar squat if that makes sense.

If you are looking to use it as a variation to bring up a weak squat, it really isn't anything special at all. It doesn't really all that much change the squat mechanics of your lower body. Unless you like to squat lowbar with a wider stance that is relatively more hip dominant but would also rather have SSB as your variation rather than high bar.

it's beneficial in the right circumstances but don't expect absolute magic from them or your regular squats to blow up

If you like doing front squats the ssb is awesome, you just use it backwards. I like them for back squats also but the bar sits so high it bruises the bottom of my neck.

Absolutely love it. If I had a home gym it would be one of the first things I’d buy

Would love to have one of these for front squats. I'm so ass at them but they hit my quads better than anything.

I bought one for my home gym a few months ago and really like it.

I just have a basic home gym, pretty much a power rack, a couple bars, and some iron + an airdyne for cardio. Squat variations and deadlifts are pretty much all I do to work lower body. I alternate between low bar squats one day and SSB squats the other day and I like the variation. In a no-frills home gym, it can be hard to come up with variety to hit legs hard, so I really like it for that scenario.

Takes pressure off elbows, wrists and shoulders. Works more upper back. Some people say it works more quads. Easier form.

I'm in the same position as you
I've had my eyes on that Titan one for over a year (the Titan one gets all the best reviews.)

I even asked Damien Pezzuti (world class powerlifter) and got a response on Instagram about the efficacy, he said he thinks it's hands down the best squat variation

BUT
I think i'm with bov188 up there in that I need to keep the clutter down
Experience is a good teacher, not a kind one.
