Pub. Health experts urge you to stay home. How are you doing NYE?

Leaders and public health experts across the country are urging Americans to scrap their New Year’s Eve plans and stay home for the second year in a row as new cases of the coronavirus spread at a record-setting pace.

The volley of warnings serves as yet another reminder that the pandemic is far from over, with the omicron variant spurring a familiar pattern of cautions and cancellations during a time when many hoped to reclaim a sense of normalcy.

But instead of partying like it’s 2019, officials are asking people to reconsider gatherings and other revelry to fight rising case counts, which on Tuesday hit an all-time high when the seven-day average of new infections topped 266,000.

“Omicron and delta are coming to your party,” Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D) said at a news conference this week. “So you need to think twice about how many people will be gathered together, keeping social distancing if you’re at a party. And if you can’t, leave.”

NYE is kind of stupid anyway IMO. Having a few friends over to eat, play virtual golf and some games, have a few drinks. But then after the ball drops they are getting kicked out because I have a long bike ride scheduled Saturday morning.

A few years ago one of my neighbors shot and killed a NYE party guest for being drunk and not leaving fast enough after the party ended:

Never really cared for NYE, I'd rather be asleep and up early the next day when everyone else is sleeping one off. We're going to get together with some family and play a few games, nothing crazy.

Even though it's a holiday I'll be working for dat der OT. I THINK the gym is open every day still so I'll be doing my normal routine (wake up 8 or 9, shower, coffee, gym, maybe some chores, study a cert, video games, work).

They want you stay home so that you dont catch Omicron, because once it runs through everybody (which it currently is and very quickly) there will be no more C-19
