I recently started editing videos on adobe premiere and sony vegas pro and Im thinking of getting davinci resolve.

I never edited videos before although I was intrigued in making videos and editing them but I have never taken that first step until recently. I basically love the idea of editing them whether its some hilarious and dumb subject or something completely different. It would be awesome to make small music videos and completely editing them.


I wanted to go to college or take some courses in something so I thought of going to private college for video editing.

Any advices?

id would say youtube may have what you're looking or more dedicated cinematography forums and asking there

You could go to college for some sort of media diploma or degree

you could also perhaps start a fivver or something to get experience editing peoples youtube videos/ short films if you don't know people irl who make films or you yourself don't shoot

I would go to college to get degree I guess even though practice is everything and I could learn just by watching on youtube I actually know two people in real life who make movies so I could try to contact them. Im just interested in editing videos so to end up with that job and edit ANY music video for example would be awesome af

I went to school for Broadcasting, which included video editing.

For editing only, a certificate on some platform should be enough, but if you want a College degree, may as well study TV Production.

I don't do any video editing myself, but I have hired people to make and edit videos for my band. I usually find them by checking out their work on their website or ******** page and looking through their portfolio. If I think they're a good fit then I'll hire them. Like the miscer above me mentioned, Fiverr is a place where you can offer your services to gain some experience as well.

I think most people are usually self taught and learn online with Youtube and stuff. There may be positions in companies where they might look into your education history, but most people I know who do this kind of work, usually just work for themselves. So the key is mainly in building up a portfolio and reputation in order to get new and repeat customers.

edit1: in hindsight if i didn't have anything specific to work on in the learning phase, i'd edit the chit out of stock video and not waste a second on college/certs

Dont go to college for video editing, there is countless tutorials free (and paid) online

you need to start learning and actually edit vidoes, and start posting your content online everywere (insta/youtube/tiktok/Fb), and start building a portolfio

get some gigs on fiverr or so to build your portfolio

You can learn editing from YouTube.

If you want to get jobs, learn all about business, selling and marketing. Especially social media marketing.

Get a website. have good copy for the website. Have a demo reel of your editing on your website.

Post your website on all of your social media platforms.

Tell everyone that you edit videos.
