i dont get it. only way this makes sense is if the drones or whatever literally follow every move you make and make it at the same time

but if it requires regular employees still getting your items then how is it different?

i guess some might enjoy the lil game more

Here’s how it works

You plug into the metaverse when you wake up
You enjoy a morning coffee on the side of the Swiss alps (caffeine pill crushed into hot water with flavor by Alexa, provided on side table designed to interface with your ai of choice)
You go shopping in a grocery store with tons of other people interested in similar foods to you from around the globe. Maybe shopping for similar cuisine of food type, sharing stories about cultural dishes etc.. (the food gloop will be delivered via drone to your Alexa kitchen chute. Or roll bot that always breaks down servicing your no window building bloc). If Alexa can’t prepare your food goop, you can go wait in line to buy it in your drab lifeless cement building.

But if you don’t get inconvenienced by reality the future will be awesome man.

Maybe if you are rich the gloop can plug into a 3D printer and make stuff that looks like real food

If you are a multi trillionaire you might get access to the last few real farms on earth.

When I was in grade school, I assumed we'd have flying cars by now. Instead, we have a computer shopping game and men with dicks are women.

The metaverse will be big in a decade if not sooner but this is not what will entice people to get into it lol. VR is getting a lot of attention now that the tech is catching up. Once they can marry AR and VR into a single small headset in the next decade, it will be the new iPhone.

VR is not appealing. Giant goggles strapped to your face. Movement in vision without movement in body makes you feel nauseous. Would rather click through a 2D website or go to the store itself than deal with this bullsh!t.

They're planning on using this in conjuction with their current OGP system srs. I used to be a manager there. They're expecting their Online grocery pickup program to account for over 50% of sales in the next few years. In time they likely won't be open to the public, possibly.

Edit, this is likely going to be very popular with senior citizens and obese AF people.

ngl, I just went to a ghetto ass walmart near me (wife insisted) and it was awful. Thugged out people everywhere, sagging pants, people mumbling rap lyrics to themselves, starring, long AF lines etc. This looks wayyyyy better.

You can currently use the walmart app on your phone to order your groceries for pickup. Walmart contracts doordash (and maybe others?) for deliveries. Expect shyt like this to become the new norm with the current wave of "organized robberies' becoming more common and DAs unwilling to prosecute.

i understand that. but what is the benefit of the vr over online ordering already?

again, i'm giving credence to the fact that online is the way. but what is the benefit of the pretend store and pretend grocery over just mouse and click?

And watch out for porch pirates.

I shop online when my store does not carry what I want.
Unfortunately, people steel from the bulk section by mislabling stuff. Driving up the price of my protein powder.

Ever walked into a Walmart needing one or two things and then you leave with a cart full of shyt? Same goes with costco and putting expensive TVs in the front and their rotisserie chickens in the back, everything looks cheaper by comparison and then you have to walk through the entire store. You don't get the 'retail experience' by viewing a website, if that makes sense. They're betting on VR taking off, which it probably will with the young generation. WM does a lot of training in the company with VR now, one of my interviews was a VR tour of a store with a store manager where we would go around the store witnessing various situations and a store manager asking how you would handle them. It was actually kind cool because it was a real video that you can interact with. WM is FULL of bad ideas that fail btw. My mental health improved so much after I left that place.
