MySQL - Books/Video Recommendations

Getting into learning MySQL as a way to branch to something new and as a hopeful job career (looking to work remote/WFH).

Anyone here know some books/videos to watch for a beginner and intermediate?

Not really interested in spending money on Udemy or whatever site if I can learn this for free - rather save my money.

Serious help appreciated.

Thanks!

You don't know SQL until you can use window functions and recursive CTEs

For practicing, leetcode has SQL questions

Install
- sql server express
- sql server management studio(ssms)

Install a local instance of sql server via sql server express. Watch a YouTube video

Do two tutorials
1) a tutorial that has you build a database from scratch using ssms
2) a tutorial that provides a built out database that you load into ssms and do queries into it

After that, leetcode and you should be pretty much set

Tbh that shouldn’t take you over a week tops

Not sure what free options there are unfortunately but you can easily find good YouTube videos that cover everything in multi-part series. I use pluralsight for my subscription service

Used to be a mysql injection exploit on this site where you could glitch the 1000 posts per 1 rep power feature

Just had to run a mysql injection with some bullcrap into someone's bodyspace profile, since the forums and bodyspavce were connected then the picture comments counted as posts

You could post like 400 million comments all at once then end up with 400k rep power

MariaDB is a fork of MySQL which is widely considered superior, and compatible.

More or less exactly the same, just different softwares. I think you still use sql server express just not ssms. Not 100% sure though

Well, its basically what I have available to learn at the moment.

I assume the tools will change however, the syntax for how SQL works is pretty universal cross-platforms?

For those interested, I found a video on SQL that did a very good job at teaching the basics - freecodecamp is an amazing channel!

Anyways, will be starting on a project to design a database for a made-up school district my first project.

Will expand on more projects afterwards - banks, corporation, etc.
