Been struggling to find social events in my area, havent had fb in years

yes FB can be pretty good for finding groups. It is for the groups I like to find. For E. Europe VK is very good

I've yet to try this but I know there are a number of dating apps (I think Bumble Tinder and Hinge) that have a filter option for "networking" as oppose to relationships. I can't guarantee you won't get noticed by gays, but its worth a shot.

Also as mentioned, ******** is a good bet. Most states/cities have their own ******** group that will link you to a bunch of different clubs and whatnot in your area (golf/baseball/football/cycling/running/car enthusiasts etc).

Meetup is okay, just depends on what kind of group you go to. I'd stick to the more active groups like hiking and sports
