Yeah and I've ended up watching old classed movies often. I used to not care much for 30s, 40s, 50s movies, but of late they don't seem that bad.

Autistic Millenials and Gen Z tards have ruined everything (including movie industry).
I watch older movies most of the time. Movies like Dial M for Murder and The Killing are GOAT movies where people could act.
Scorsese is right when he said Cinema is dead.

saw an interesting take from Matt Damon on movie making today.
Basically, producers don't want to risk movies that won't target a large audience anymore due to cost/benefits ratio (oversimplified, but that's the idea).
Look it up on YT, ''the hot ones''.
That's why we now only have the milking cows, piece of **** reboots like Spider-Man and all the Marvel movies.
Only big renowned producers risk going a little bit off-path these days. Hollywood has truly gone to ****.

There seem to be a finite set up formulaic storylines that just rehashed again and again.
That's the best case. More commonly they just made a sequel so people putting money in are basically guaranteed middling success with no real risk.

Watched Alien and Aliens last night.
Wow....nothing comes out anymore like those.
Would have been a CGI fukfest if made today with trannies depicted as colonial marines fingering each other between Alien fights and discussing equality while the xenomorphs would be used as a placeholder for white supremacists.

I've just been watching oldies I've never seen. Just saw Jackie Chan's "Drunken Master" (1978) and "The Legend of Drunken Master" (1994). Probably gonna watch some other Jackie Chan and eventually Bruce Lee movies down the road tbh.
You can't get me to watch a new movie unless I like the IMDB score though, srs.

Yep. 1980s-1990s was peak for movies.
This is why i watch tv shows now instead of movies. I do like the new John Wick movies. They are really good.
Yellowstone, Game of Thrones (except for the last season), Sons of Anarchy are all better than most movies today...

Movies like Fight Club failed at the Box Office but did great on DVD.
Sales of Blu-Rays have become almost niche now.
If you look at these 2 years of the Pandemic, the only movie that's done really well is Spider-Man: No Way Home. (It's still a good movie)
The movies have barely made their budgets back.

I still buy em all. Most people prob don't understand streaming you don't own anything. You're paying Netflix or whoever is hosting it for a license to watch it. You don't own it. If they do anything to your account, you will not have access
You notice how Amazon tries to PUSH their streaming service? Yea, so you don't actually own and use their service for more $$
I like having the physical disc I can do what I want with
Plus, image and sound are way better on a disc
I wonder if they're gonna become collectors items at some point, like records. The rarity is prob not super rare but the pool is getting smaller and smaller
I will say it's kinda annoying 4k discs are 30 bucks and you have to buy the Blu Ray with it, but they're good on deals

Access Denied. Fuk this fukcing forum, srs. Have to retype everything...
I think a major reason is because the general public are morons and don't understand nor care for better cinema in the first place. It's no different from the music scene and how horrible it is. Nobody is really interested in listening to a great piece of musical art that moves you, rather they are into dope azz beats and how the guitar and double bass sounds. It's not something to be enjoyed it's supposed to be mindless food for the senses. Same goes for movies. As others have said it's all about CGI jack off fests and characters we can easily meme.
I still remember when I saw Joker in theaters. I felt like I was the only person in the theater who really understood the film. As a matter of fact the entire row I saw sitting in (they were part of a group) got up and left before the end credits rolled. Almost everyone I talked to about the movie didn't enjoy it like I did. Many said it was boring because they were expecting some CGI wanking, or something akin to The Dark Knight. As much as I loved Joker it's obvious that movie wouldn't have been made nor received a billion dollars at the box office if it there was no familiar comic book villain backdrop
