Got a new job! Reps til I prolapse!

Starting next week I will be a Quality Engineer. I'm going to be making 20k more than my last job I got laid off from. That doesn't include bonuses which could put me at 40k more than my last job! fukcen a, man!

bro-tip: Make sure you make solid connections wherever you go. The major reason I got this job was because I used to work with someone who is now a manager at this new place and she really wanted me there.

We're all gonna make it!

Congrats.

I heard half the value of college is meeting other ambitious people who get you jobs later. Looks like something similar happened with you but on a job instead.

Did you stay connected over LinkedIn or just exchange numbers?

Nice. How much did you end up tipping them after the interview? That comes in handy a lot.

Truth. A referral or a good contact seems to go much further than anything else when it comes to getting hired. I've known a few people who get hired simply for dropping names (I worked with X who used to work alongside Y. Name dropping Y is what set the manager to want to hire the guy)

Yeah we stayed connected over linkedin. Really the only thing that chit site is useful for

Awesome opie.

It is impossible to overstate the importance of work connections. I've gotten 3 promotions off the good word of my supervisors/managers. Often the first call the manager hiring will make on his shortlist is your superior.

Haha yes I was staging my own personal protest against the chit job market. I cashed out some serious severance pay plus collected unemployment while I was finishing up school after I lost my previous job, so I had plenty of money to live off of. Would rather not work than take a job that's 10klessthan the previous job, while having all the same responsibilities. That's just.... no.

Definitely. I'm going to make it a habit with everything now. I used to be the overly-professional type, thinking if I get a lot of work done even the managers who hate me will see what a great worker I am and look out for me. Nope. It's all about building good relationships, regardless.
