what IS cucked is being convinced to get a c-section in the first place. they are almost never necessary, and they put the odds heavily against the child having a healthy life. they certainly make the hospital a lot more money though.

I always assumed it was because they give you extra time in the delivery room so they can do the skin to skin immediately after birth. The delivery room is billed at a higher rate than a recovery room. Still silly.

A lot of c-section are actually avoidable. Epidurals, for example, which are much more common in the US than most countries increase the odds of a c-section quite a bit.

It all depends on the situation. We know an extremely sad story of a couple who tried for a long time, wanted natural birth, labored too long and the kid died. Would have easily survived with a C.

In the case of a C-section, where the bedside caregiver is occupied caring for the mother during surgery, an additional nurse is brought into the OR to allow the infant to remain in the OR suite with the mother. This is to ensure both patients remain safe. There is an additional charge associated with bringing an extra caregiver into the OR. The charge is not for holding the baby, but for the additional caregiver needed to maintain the highest levels of patient safety,
