What Should Happen With The Ukraine-NATO-Russia Situation
There is a simple and easily doable political solution to the Ukraine situation that can be had and avoid war and destruction and potentially very great harm but it requires compromise by each. This is it.
- NATO formally agrees that Ukraine will not join NATO ever. NATO forces are removed from Ukraine and no further military weaponry is transferred to Ukraine.
- Russia hands control of Donbas and Crimea back to Ukraine. All Russian forces are removed from those two areas and no further infiltration of Ukraine will be made.
- Ukraine will become a neutral state independent from NATO and Russia control.
Not coming to an agreeable compromise has the potential to be far more catastrophic than any of us realize now. Taking Ukraine will be more difficult and harmful and costly than most in Russia realize. Stopping Russia will be far more difficult and harmful and costly than most in Ukraine and the West realize. All parties should agree to this compromise.

If both sides can be made assured that each will abide by the compromise, then it would work and work great. That's the only thing left to the details - how to make each side assured that the other will abide by the agreement.
Ukraine would be whole again, peaceful, and neither Russia nor NATO would be in Ukraine, and catastrophic war would be avoided.
This is what should happen. If not then we're looking at a terrible long war in Ukraine, potentially a larger regional war in Europe, and even potentially precipitating into a larger war than that as a direct conflict between all of NATO and Russia with direct military strikes happening in both including in the US.

Ukraine can make its own decisions. Its not part of the USSR anymore. The eastern half of the country is owned by separatists, what is supposed to happen to them and Crimea in this scenario?

You can't really undo the coup that was staged in 2014.
Also lol at thinking either side will believe that the other will honour the deal. The US government is so fractured and many parts do whatever the fuk they want, Putin has made such deals with people before who literally don't have the power to enforce them on other Americans, so why would he agree to anything?
