Is crime really as bad as they say, and is it worth it to visit? I have a friend in Johannesburg that invited me to stay with them

Lived in joburg for a while. Agree with the above, beautiful country, lots of awesome ppl (of all races), but watch your back. Could never live there long term.

spent a bunch of time there about a year in total

break ins and murders happens all the time, many people living in shacks just a few miles from multi million dollar mansions

was on a surf trip in Jbay last summer, left my apartment window open and burglars came through. snatched my 2nd phone and two jackets and shoes, they dropped the rest of the loot after I woke up and chased them away. Couldn't see **** because I'm semi blind with out contact lenses, would have caught those fukers
