I got the bowflex. A little pricier but really nice for flys and curls. Also it's like 105 lbs total weight if you compare to yours but so much easier to swap plates.

For under $100 hit up yard sales and ******** gotta ask around

$100 would get you the dumbbells from Titan fitness but then you would still have to buy a bunch of 10lb plates (or whatever your using) and then at that point your already at the price range for adjustable ones

For a guy without a base, I would buy 3 sizes, like 15, 30 and 45.

remember to compensate the non fap arm with 5 pounds at first or youll have trouble with wobbling barbells.

Spend the money to get a quality set. I have the Power Blocks Sport EXP. They are great and will last a long time. The ones you posted have the bar sticking out the end which makes them extremely uncomfortable sit in your legs.

This right here. I got oversized handles from New Yor Barbell. Either the 16's or the 18's, I've used them for about 7 years now. I can load them up with over 100 each. If you go this route, you can add plates for years as needed from craigslist or marketplace or Dicks...

The ones they sell have a nice rubber gasket, but it wears out after a few years of use.

Standard size is 14" and you can get them cheaper at places like Dicks, but I had to use 25's to get enough on them when I was using that size.

Ironmasters are absolutely bullet proof and will last a lifetime. The older style 10-75 lb Ironmaster/Hoist sets can sometimes be found used cheap.

I love mine.

It's a gift not sure how serious he will be about lifting. That's why just doing a set under $80 if he's serious can always get him a bowflex adjustable set or Nordictrack.
