They're basically right next to each other. Catch a cab at the border and tell them to take you to Zona Norte. If you want to play it safe, then stay in that general area. There's also some places that have cheap as fuk drinks (like a bucket of 10 beers for $10 for example), but I can't remember names.

No, I've been around there and had no issues but I do believe that's considered a more dangerous area. The overall dangerousness of Tijuana is hugely exaggerated (mostly by people who have no clue wtf they're talking about) though and a little common sense goes a very long way.

I used to go to TJ a few times a year when i went to college in SD. One time, it was 4am and i was hammered and asked the taxi driver where to get some tacos. he takes us into this dark neighborhood with no lights, im now thinking i goofd and im about to have my organs extracted. pull up to this dudes small shack/house, hes wide awake watching soccer with his kid. We order some tacos, he gets some meat from a bucket, grills up some tacos and HOLY FUK it was some of the best tacos i have ever eaten, easily blew away any taco ive had in Los Angeles or San Diego and ive tried hundreds. Taxi driver also had some tacos and we all stayed for a couple hours after just eatin and chattin with the taco man, 10/10 banter and meaningful conversation

I'm in Australia. What's the deal with cars and crossing the border? Can you legally drive your American registered car around? On TV that's what it looks like. But people are talking about taxis here. Where is your car is you're getting a taxi?

i didn't have a car at the time, was broke and in college and the school i went to was super anal about being green so they actively made it very difficult to have a car on campus

There is a place right by the border where you can park. Whenever I did that it was always a friend driving though, so I have no clue the directions. There's also a trolley that goes right to the border, that's the other way I/we would get there.

I think we're parking somewhere near the border and taking a cab or walking across? I hear driving across the border to the US interior can take hours.

my friends from work always described it as like living in the hood

just have street smarts and youre fine

in the high tourist areas even if they're run down the small time ****ty gangs know not to **** with tourists because the cartel either owns or has a lot of money in those businesses and will make an example out of them

go in their hood on the wrong side of town then youre fair game

you only need to watch your back for petty crimes or the bold enough federalis

some will shake you down and others will beat the **** out of you and make you take out all your money from an atm in broad daylight

you never know which ones are with the cartel but usually standing your ground or carrying a wallet with very little money in it will be sufficient

I knew a guy who did scaffolding that lived in tj and if he ever got shook down in the nicer spots he always threatened them with the cartel coming to do a "clean up" of the area and that always worked

obviously won't work on the rough side of town

Im not a food expert especially not with legit mexican food, but the TJ taco i had was just so fuking flavorful and joocy. it was one of those moments where you and your crew just go silent for a few minutes and everyone has that super srs good eatin' face that turns into the jizz face accompanied by aggressive mini grunts of "mm" cuz the chit is so good. also be sure to grab a coca cola or some other soda while in TJ, i noticed they take their soda really fukin srsly there

if you're in SD hit up Taco Stand and get the surf and turf burrito. fellow SD brahs will probably fight me on this but taco stand was my #1 mexican joint in SD

also a SD tradition is after getting hammered after a night out, find a 24 hr mexican joint and get a big ass order of carne asada fries. i think my fav was some place called Vallarta's back in the day

Oh damn, I might be going there on Monday with some buddies. It's been a looong time since I went. I usually pay $10-15 to park (I don't remember exactly how much) and we cross on foot. Quick and easy. HK is usually the go to but I heard poosy is expensive af now so my buddies usually smash couple of street hoes instead and then just go to HK to drink, touch/fuk around and have a good time.

We ate at Taquería Franc after which I highly recommend.

The main area with bars is calle sexta (6th St) and avenida revolucion if you plan to bar hop. It's pretty lively there. The strip clubs are a few blocks away.
