Lifting goals?

You guys got any goals you're working towards? PRs you're chasing or anything? What motivates you to lift currently?

just trying to sorta work through and rehab my left hip/glute to get back at pre-covid numbers. not even sure what brought it about. gyms closed for me for like 7 months back in nov 2020, was bored so started to run 2-3 miles 5x a week. come back to the gym, slowly work up over a few weeks then as I got heavier I felt a really tightness going on there that told me I probably shouldn't push it. fast forward to January it's still there but isn't as bad but noticeable. going to go to a different PT. repping low-mid 300s on deadlifts for sets of 6 where I was doing so for high 300s/low 400s.

trying to do this while cutting slightly, so far I have been able to maintain and even increase strength slightly on some lifts which is good. currently weighing around 182-185 lbs on any given day.

Get back to where my lower back doesn't hurt.

At 36, with multiple sports injuries, 6'6" blah blah......Im more concerned with functionality than putting up any numbers.

I've pulled 640
I've squatted 440
I've benched 365

Currently NOWHERE near that and don't care at all. If I can pull 315 (not from a lack of strength, but more from pain) It's a good day. lulz.

At least you were smart about it. My back was feeling chit and I pushed it anyway and ended up snapcity. I just started getting back into doing front squats after like 2 months.

Just to maintain tbh. Happy with physique and starting to care less about my performance.

I feel like I reached my limit. Time to enjoy the "end game" lol.

I would like to hit 6 plates on the safety bar with a wedge.

Then I got a couple goals on the hack squat.

Most of my goals are short term progressive overload goals.

Nothing too srs for lifting goals for me right now. Currently running SS-esque program just to build back strength, but my priorities are hitting enough quad volume to help my knee heal, taking pressing easy and working on shoulder mobility, getting leaner, and bringing up my poverty BB curl.

If/when my body gets to a very stable state, priorities will be getting pressing strength back and then working more on my arms while lean bulking. Used to bench 240x8, but after injuries and weight loss, that's 185 for 8. OHP is similarly fukt :/

Been hyper focusing on seeing how far I can take bench. Always sucked at pressing movements. Currently at 245 for 2 reps. Wondering if it's even possible for someone like me to ever hit 3 plates?

Damn that's beast. I wish my gym had a safety bar. Too cheap to pay 50 a month to join a powerlifting gym

I was never great at benching either despite it being my favorite lift. Seemed the only way I got better at it was by bloating up hard.

it is brah. however you have to be willing to gain weight, practice singles with maybe 230-235 lbs to get used to the heavy weights. to be fair I think I'm in the same boat as you lol. I can probably do 225 for 6 reps atm but also nursing a right shoulder which I kinda went full retard on with machines. gonna stick with free weights for upper body for now on so my shoulders are free to move along their natural groove srs.

Yeah I always lol at people who say there is no natty limit. Brb they look the same and their #s in the gym fall into range

Good luck to you going to the dark side. I've had mild thoughts about it but nah f it. Look forward to the results

No doubt I could make more natty gains but the amount of effort required for 1-2lbs of muscle probably not worth it.

There comes a point where you realize natty lifting becomes cycle of
-cut and lose strength/muscle
-Be unhappy with being weak and small
-Then bulk and regain strength/muscle but gain no more strength than you had before
-rinse and repeat

I want to believe so bad that there's no natty limit.

Was very close to them before injury 1.5 years ago. Stopped lifting and lost all gains.

Right now

Pull ups - +80 pounds for 10 reps

OHP - 205 x 2 (this lift is so impossible to gain strength on, I'm fighting tooth and nail just to get back the strength I had on it before)

Squats - 375 x 10 (goal I feel most confident in getting to since my injury was an upper body one).

Once/if I achieve these, I will go into the horizontal press/horizontal pull goals.

spun my wheels for over a year doing that. throw in a few minor injuries and the result is no gains and a lot of wasted effort.
