have you ever suffered with an addiction?

as a teen id experimented with drugs like most do, tried everything i could get my hands on. drank so much alcohol in them years aswell but i never got addicted to any of them. watched a few people i used to hang around with back then whos lives are pretty much ruined now because of addiction but addiction never really caught me.

i quit everything with no real issues at about age 23 or so and was sober, then a few years later i got hooked on online gambling of all things. i used to laugh at gambling addicts "just dont gamble bruh whats the problem lol" but god damn it deffinately got me for 2 years, lying about where my money had gone, why i couldnt pay for this or that, lying about why i need to borrow money etc... really was 2 years of hell.

i got nowhere near as deep as others have, i never got into debt but i did sell a lot of posessions to fund it. luckily i got out of that and am now 2 years gamble free. i stillthink about it and get tempted to "just have one small bet" but i never do. i guess youre never really cured from addiction its just a constant battle that gets easier over time.

Yeah i have an addictive personality, so i was addicted to video games when i was younger.

Well, not like addicted 'addicted', more like 'obsession to get good at it' addiction. \

I did get addicted to some stuff later on when i was like 20 or 21 or something, but more in the context of 'i can't stop when i start', not like i need to go keep getting more.

Now i am normal and not addicted to anything.

In my experience addiction is the result of a loss of self, so you feel empty and 'need to fill the void'.

I know people who got addicted to gambling, smoking, pepsi, and heaps of stuff - usually people who are mentally ill and emotionally weak (lack of positive self sustaining positive emotion).

no other addictions. I think from what my natural/genetic susceptibility are opioids and gambling. I say that because i liked opiods the limited times i had them for medical reasons (where as some people hate it and makes them nauseous) and also gambling. I got wrecked every time i go to a casino and i could def feel this dopamine buzz when i was winning. I think my predisposition to alcohol is pretty low, i dont like it all that much and absolutely hate hang overs so that serves as a strong deterrent to overdrinking.

my friend has a gambling addiction. He went 40k in debt, he had to borrow money from his parents. I went to the nino with him, we went to baccarat. This mfer lost 3 in a row and lost $500 then we left. Fastest casino run ever we were in there for 5 minutes lmao. But srs, gambling addictions are terrible.
