If your own dad took a swing at you, would you fight back?

Even if my dad (RIP) tried to start a fight with with me, I think I’d probably hold back and just take it. Imagine the emasculation and never ending grudge a father would have in losing a fight to his own son. That would create some serious long term problems. You’d strip the man of his dignity forever.

You guys think you could take your old man in his physical prime?

Now? No, as he is 73 and has lost most of his former strength. I would just take the blows.

At his prime, it would have been a different story. He was in the military and was a Police Officer in some of the rougher parts of the city, where you had to scuffle and get in the odd fight whilst arresting a crook.

My dad had a swing at me once, in hindsight pretty sure he was gonna pull it, but I reacted by actively blocking rather than just waiting to see what happened, I never had any intention in attacking.
He was so fkin mad, must have been like 14 or so at the time.

If you like your dad, you shouldn't do anything that impacts their pride or integrity, unless absolutely necessary.

If your dad is a deadbeat, then do wtf you want.

My dad is back lifting at 77 after shoulder replacement surgery and is hoping to bench 225 again this summer. He's always been a beast. I could take him now, but no way in his prime. Dude would have flattened me. At least I could outrun him.

He wouldn’t. He knows I’m a black belt and deadlift well over 400 for reps. I’m also several inches taller.

That said, if it came down to it, I’d just parry and sweep. No need to kick his ass. It’s never worth it unless your life is in danger

My dad has always been A1. So Then and now, I wouldn't. If he was going to seriously hurt me maybe id toss him down or just try to bear hug his ass. But strike him? Na I was raised with respect.
Are you not entertained?

I love my dad so much but being an Eastern Europe parent I was fairly beat often for the smallest errors.

One night he’s drinking and starts arguing and tried to strike me when I was 18 and full of teenage emotion so I just clocked him in the face one quick time and he seemed to be in shock.

Felt very bad cuz I could tell he was very hurt emotionally and I feel like I stripped some dignity from him.

Looking back at it I had to do what was necessary but I’ll never do it again.

He really does carry the whole family on his back and I wouldn’t do a single thing to hurt his pride, especially considering if he just packed up and left we would have been totally fooked.

No. Never.

Leave and never speak to again? Yes.

Hit him or anything physical? No.

In his physical prime, my dad was on scholarship playing D1 offensive line.

Probably not. I'm 47 though, and I could take my dad at 47.

My Dad is only 50 years old, so if he attacked me I’d fight back yeah. I wouldn’t fight him the way I’d fight a stranger at a bar, I’m not going to try to seriously hurt him or anything like that but I’d just send a message that I’m not going to tolerate being attacked by him or anybody else. My Dad is still over 200lbs fairly lean in his older age, still a strong guy just has a lot of injuries that have worn on his body.

My stepdad popped me in the face and threw me around once when I was 18 I'm assuming because he didn't like how much I was partying. He acted the same way so I'm not really sure what the deal was. It was a rough patch I guess. He's bigger than me and I'm not a fighter so he would have kicked my ass if I would have fought back. At that point I was a 140lb manlet runt lol.

I imagine he'd be unhinged and dangerous if so. I would stop him and try to look at him like a recovering drug addict who I must look out a little for.

Mine would always beat me since I was a kid so I was used to the beatings. Going to school with a black eye and trying to lie tk the teachers how I got it.

Once I finally hit back since he would always brag about how much he could kick my ass no matter how big I got. I was about 20 he was in his 50s. He kept trying to deck me in the face and kicked me in the balls. After that I hit him too hard in the face and messed his face up real bad.

He never tried fighting me again.

Even if you only have 1% respect for your dad, you should never fight back for real, unless he is trying to kill you, which is not the question in the OP. Gtfo or defend/push away

It’s a man’s job to check his pride and ego when dealing with a son, if a son hurts the dads pride then the dad was a weak man to begin with, and the pain is from the reveal of that fact, I would be proud if my son ever got to a point he could kick my azz.
