Best Bang for buck tropical destination that's not Tulum.

Taking my girl on vacation later this year. Tried telling her that i've been all over the world and i can confirm that "a sand and ocean sunset in hawaii, is a sand and ocean sunset in marbella".

I feel like people go to one tropical destination and swear it's THE only place you can get that vibe, it's silly. ANYway, i'm definitely not spending fiji or maldives money on anything short of a honeymoon, but i do want to take her somewhere with a perceived air of exoticness because she earned it. So where should i look? Aruba, St Lucia, St Martin?

Was gonna come and say Talum... have a good Adults only thats cheap if your interested. One of the best vacations ive ever had. And yes, your right, if you only want the beach, just go to Mexico. Hawaii is nice if you care about the hikes, volcanoes, etc

In4 answers. My wife and I are still trying to plan an overdue honeymoon. Tulum/Playa Del Carmen were on our lists, but interested to see other recommendations. Not trying to spend 6K a person either.

St. Lucia is probably the most "tropical", but it's also the most expensive.
St. Maarten/Martin is middle of the road. Not as tropical rainforest wise as St. Lucia, but the water is RIDICULOUSLY blue.
Aruba is basically a desert.

I like Jamaica because you can stay at a Sandals for relatively cheap and I've never had an issue there at all. Plus super easy to get to.

I visited St. Kitts while on a cruise, so not sure of costs there, but it was awesome too. Hiked to the top of the volcano, so that was all tropical.

Not sure if it's still the same way, but the cheap "go to" used to be the Dominican Republic, either Punta Cana or Puerto Plata. Probably don't want to venture too far from your resort though.

For me there is no in between. Either maldives/fiji or mexico. I think you get way more value in mexico for reasonably close experience. Of course, our time in the Maldives was one of the best trips of our lives, but thoes are few and far between.

I feel like St Barts, St Martin etc are closer to mexico but higher prices. Maybe bali? (never been)

I liked tulum personally. It's expensive.as fuark though. 3 basic biatch tacos on the street are 16$ drinks are 15-20$ its pretty much major us city prices.
Alot of the carribean Islands have some major covid regulations, alot of them require the vax or a mandatory quarantine. Look into the rules before you start booking.
As far as I know dominican republic, aruba and curaca are still negative covid test to enter. No vax required

Also this. I've found in the Caribbean there is usually a trade off between the beaches and the tropical feel. The islands that have the absolute best beaches really aren't very, what I consider, rainforesty tropical. And vice versa. For example, Turks and Caicos has some of the best beaches on the planet, but it's highest point is like 150 feet. So don't expect Bora Bora type views.

Just go to sandals Montego Bay or somewhere like that. Or Atlantis in the Bahamas.

There are more low-key,but equally nice spots in the Bahamas than Atlantis. Maybe more romantic. But I always had the most fun at Atlantis.

Went to the Ozen Madhoo resort on the Maldives right before Christmas. 10k/2 people, 7 nights and it was absolutely amazing for just going off the grid and relaxing. Small island so no crowds and maybe a couple kids, booked a house with an indoor pool. You just went outside, took a couple steps down and were standing in the ocean. There are also other private resorts with a sandy beach access.

Unlimited food, drinks, gym, tennis, spa (two massage sessions/person), two minibar refills/day are all included so you pretty much don't have to spend a single dime once your plane lands there. Heaven.

Correct. A good middle is perhaps Kuaui. We went there in 2021 and had the best of great beaches and towering mountains. Lots of trails, lots of secluded beaches.
Its just expensive. Decent room on the beach is $1500 a night.

Thinking about doing a similar trip, but have to check covid restrictions and hoops to jump through.

Aruba, Curacao, St. Marten, Puerto Rico are all strong candidates. From what I have read, these are open. Barbados maybe?

St. Lucia looks too beautiful for a random trip, thinking it deserves to be a honeymoon destination or something else special.

I was looking at Jamaica the other day for a quick/cheap trip to somewhere tropical, it was 5k miles and 60-100/day for an Airbnb. Might make it an extended weekend trip.

Have been to Isla Mujeres MX a ton. Its great because its safe to have free run of the island without worrying about much more than petty crime. Travel by golf cart. It is not secluded and exotic though. But I'll put the food there against anywhere else with tropical beaches and you can rent a house sitting on the caribbean with 180-degree ocean views for $130/night. There is a swanky all inclusive place there (Villa Rolandi) where they pick you up from CUN airport and take you over to the island on their private yacht.

If you are looking all-inclusive type place there are a bunch of options at 7-mile beach in Negril. Its the best beach I've ever been to and faces dead west for awesome sunsets every night. Couples Swept Away is a good option there.

Bermuda is my favorite island. No poverty, beautiful beaches but don't think there is much in the way of hiking.

I dunno dude. Most people here tend to go to Cuba, Mexico, Jamaica, Bahamas, etc. I know someone who just rented a villa in Barbados for 6 weeks or so. Remote work has its perks.

I rented a condo in Rome once for 2 weeks and it was really nice. Lived that Roman lifestyle. Market down the road, cheap wine and beer, large balcony just chilling in the Mediterranean sun while visiting historic locations in the AM and tanning/drinking in the afternoon sun.

Love St Maarten. Cheap if you know where to go. Get an Airbnb and avoid the resorts. Rental car is a must and reasonably priced. Cheap booze and food if you avoid the gringo places.

Phuket / Koh Samui / Krabi (all Thailand) cheap even for luxury resorts once you get there, the cost is in the flight.

Cabo is nice for resorts but can't swim on most of the beaches. Cancun is good if u do an all-inclusive.

For something different try Italy, anywhere along the Amalfi Coast

I just saw an article about how Bali is suffering(no customers) because of the pandemic, so if you want exotic check into it.

The pacific coast of Mexico. Mazunte, Zipolite, Puerto escondido and so on. It's close, its beautiful, it's cheap and exotic.









It's an order of magnitude cheaper than Tulum.

Oaxaca city is nearby and cool too. Even tho it's in the mainland away from the coast is a nice town with lots of culture and art. If you go there you should check it out too.




That part of the country is absurdly cheap compared to Tulum. There's a nice airport in puerto escondido so getting there is quite easy too. It's quite safe too.

Yes it is quite beautiful. The coast of the state of Oaxaca is imo the nicest one of the Mexican pacific. IT's not so touristy but it still has enough of a tourist industry to not feel in the middle of nowhere and you can still enjoy modern day ammenities. You can fly straigh in from Mexico city so conectivity is good too.

Punta Cana has white san beaches and blue ocean.

You could also do Colombia. Cartagena (ocean not the greatest here) and chill for a night or 2 before taking a short bus to Isla Baru and stay there for however long you want. Nice blue water. Or fly into Santa Marta and make your way into Tayrona Parque. There are a few eco habs there which would be amazingly quiet and peaceful.
