How often do you start a conversation with a stranger at the gym?

How often do you start a conversation with a random stranger at the gym? And how often do strangers start a conversation with you?

Asking for a spot/how many sets left etc does not count

Also, never.

In and out as soon as possible. I absolutely hate the environment in the majority of the gyms (especially the big gym chains). Bunch of weak people working out because its cool and not because they love it (or have a srs goal).

Never. This old dude talked to me once and I made the mistake of being nice to him and now he thinks we're best friends. Always has to run up and talk to me. Leave me the fuk alone.

Never. This reminds me I need to change gyms. A lot of casuals including trainers have 0 gym etiquette. Water bottles resting on benches for 20 minutes, doing glute bridges 3 feet away from me with a client when I'm doing RDL's sticking my ass in the client's face, using 3 machines at the same time when the gym is packed, leaving plates all around the gym. More like a zoo instead of a gym.

Are proper powerlifting/hardcore gyms like that as well? Never been a member of one.

I plan my workouts to avoid people. Too many times someone would try and talk to me while I have headphones on in addition to the other annoyances like hogging equipment with 5 minute rests between sets.

A few times with regulars i see
-Once spotted this guy hitting 3 plates on the bench and i started small talk and now we talk every time we see eachother. We also talked about PED's and kebabs
-This man in his 50s spotted me once on the incline smith machine and i thanked him and we started talking. His name is Rob
-There is this guy that looks like a bikie who i just nod to all the time when i see him and i talked to him for a bit and told him good job on always pushing yourself at the gym. i think he left though
-This asian guy who shadow boxes all the time at the gym i asked him if he trains and competes in martial arts and he said he is a kickboxer amateur. talked to him a few times but rarely see him anymore

I dont really see any of these people anymore, started going gym different time now

Always the issue.

I’ve made the mistake of being friendly years past

brb lemme talk to you for 15 fuking minutes mid workout (wtf?)

brb losing all focus between sets and not keeping warmed up

brb lemme stay behind after my hard workout for 20 minutes after I’ve already been here for 1+hours

I get in head down workout and leave

Never. I can't hear anything like with the headphones in.
If you are not willing to risk the unusual, you will have to settle for the ordinary

I 100% would not speak to you or acknowledge your existence if I’m at the gym.

Even if I recognised you from your pic.
