Is Vincent Vega (Pulp Fiction) Hispanic or Italian?

I watched the film recently, I quite liked Travolta’s character. My assumption was that he was Italian-American, since Travolta is half Sicilian in real life. Also his brother Victor "Vic" Vega in Reservoir Dogs is played by Michael Madsen. My Mexican friend said Vega is a common Hispanic surname, but it could also be Italian. I know some surnames could be either (Rosa for example) as Spain and Italy share a lot culturally, genetically, and linguistically.

What do you guys think? Are the Vega brothers Italians, Spaniards, or some type of Latin American?

I think so too, although when I look up the Vega surname most of the results come up talking about it’s Spanish origins. Perhaps it was just a mistake on Tarrentino’s part, picking a name that sounded Italian but is actually more common in Spain and Latin America.

Hispanic. Puerto Rican to be exact.

There are deleted scenes of Vincent Vega talking about his cousin, singer Suzanne Vega. This was cut from the movie due to legal issues. Suzanne Vega got her name from her Puerto Rican stepfather, Ed Vega.
You have my word as a Schons.

EDIT: Wizard above.

In a deleted scene Vincent is asked if he is related to singer Suzanne Vega. You can look up Suzanne Vega's ethnic background in wikpedia.

However Vincent goes on to say that if his cousin Suzanne is a singer he hadn't heard anything about it. Which makes it unlikely that his cousin Suzanne Vega is the singer Suzanne Vega. But if they are related you check her out and have at least some clue.
