I've never seen the US go after Russia in such an aggressive way. I really think we're underestimating them. They're not the same weak country they were back in the early 90s. Either that or maybe we've got something up the sleeve that gives us some false sense of confidence.

Most of Ukraine is Russia historically, it's like if the US government fell instead of the soviets, California became independent and then tried to join the Warsaw pact 30 years later. Except Ukraine had been Russia for longer than the USA has existed, it's not a real country

Strategic geography and natural resources, which Russia desperately needs. That said, I still don't believe anything is imminent. Russia is looking to negotiate and Brandon wants to be able to say he saved us from a war.

Probably because the early 90s is the last time anyone in this administration has had a fully functioning brain.
The average age of U.S. Senators is currently 64 and the average age of U.S. House members is 58. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is 81 and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is 71.

Ukraine has 44 million people most of whom want to give democracy and the rule of law a chance (they ain't there yet, it will take a long while) - this is the nightmare for an authoritarian like Putin. Putin wants weak sheep on his borders so he can threaten them effectively. If Putin has a brain he should negotiate with the Ukraine that he pulls out of the east and they keep Crimea. Russian's really like Crimea (even liberal Russians who hate Putin) he gets support for that. Russian's don't give a crap about eastern Ukraine and they sure as hell don't support invading the Ukraine and trying to subjugate that population.

As for Nukes, Russia lighting the nuclear candle, even a tactical battlefield nuke, would be the biggest propaganda f'up of all time. Not retaliating in kind would give the west all sorts of leverage to demand the heads of the Russian crime family on a platter (literally).

Good try, but none of those country's neighbours are trying to join military alliances set against them as the enemy so it's not the same situation at all. Russia is not the aggressor here and doesn't actually want to invade but may be forced to as a last resort.

Anyone who thinks Russia can be confined to its post-USSR borders is a genuine idiot.

I wish some other country would just nuke them both while they're focused on each other and every time they come back to the Ukrainian russian border, just hit em again

so then why dont they take estonia and latvia? Both of those are on russias border, both are historically “russia”, and both are members of nato.

By your logic that is justification enough for invasion.

nato have stronger non-nuclear forces but it doesnt matter when 1000's nuclear warheads ready to go.doubt that nato will have balls to do anything when putin invades because they want missiles on russian border.
also might be stunt by joint forces of nato and russia to boost economy via military spendings.

I'm not saying whether they should or not, just trying to explain from a Russian point of view that is lost on many people. Baltic states are not as important to Russia's security interests. They're also not ethnically Russian.

I think the threat of nuclear attack changes everything and is a clear indicator that russia needs to sit the fuk down.

Many of the people living in Ukraine are Russian, almost all of them are in the east. They have Russian names and speak Russian, they like Moscow and hate Kiev. There is no such thing as Ukrainian ethnicity, it's a fabrication. This doesn't apply to the Baltics in the same way. Lithuanians, Estonians and Latvians are distinct historical ethnicities.
