Any of your employers increase your salary to account for the 7% inflation?

Having a discussion with my boss around compensation soon and need to prepare to ask for more. I have recruiters reaching out to me constantly and offering ~20-30% more than what I currently make. Only reason I haven't jumped ship is because I truly love my job, have a WLB, and I'm not struggling financially. Still would like to get paid at market value.

I'll take 2.

But meh, I think 7% (the figure that was reported) more or less aligns with what I've observed in my personal life as far as inflation goes.

Government employee here… 2.2% pay raise across the board and .5% locality. Our health insurance prices went up 3.2% though. The raise is certainly not offsetting inflation.

Proposed 5.1% pay raise next year so gonna stay hopeful but our economy is crashing and burning quick and it’s only going to get worse.

I work for a small company that has about 40 employees. They gave a 2.5% raise to everyone, so definitely lost purchasing power this year compared to last. Boss said it's not his fault inflation is that high, so I don't think he see's it as his burden to bare to instead give everyone 7-8% raises.

Inflation is irrelevant. You have real market comps from recruiters, why aren’t you using that?

1. Quantify the value you create for the firm
2. Explain the market comps, which is what they would need to pay (+ recruitment fees and training) to replace you
3. Ask for at least 15-20%
4. Profit?

BRB inflation and getting a raise, to be put into a higher tax bracket, to take home even less money from last year with everything costing way more. Thanks Biden. (Ded fkn Srs)

Eh you have progressive tax brackets, don't you? So only the amount that hits a new bracket is taxed higher. But everything below it is still taxed the same, bar any new tax regulations. Whatever you earn more adds to your net salary.

Anyway my pay is instantly and automatically adjusted to inflation every time it hits 2%. It can only go up, it can never come down. Pretty important thing to have in your contracts in times like these.

If inflation is 10% and your wage goes up 10% you break even

But tax brackets are on nominal income levels

So a higher proportion of your wage is on the higher tax bracket

brb threaten to leave even if you love your job and don't want to. Don't be a pussy ass bitch who stays in his chair for pennies LMFAO. Tell those dickheads what you want or continue to cry online/inside your mind. Got a raise and bonus last year so I better get the same thing this year or I'll execute Order 666. I don't have a problem burning a company or boss at the stake to get what I want when I know I have all the leverage I need

Nah, was only eligible for the 3% COLA as I got a raise in my review last July. Can only get raises once a year unless I want to make my manager grovel to the CIO for more money mid year. Did that in 2019 so don't want to be a dick. For some reason our fiscal year starts july 1st.

Im happy with my comp and remote work though.

ITT miscers don't understand the difference between COLAs and pay raises.

If I was only offered a COLA I would have a new job in about 25 minutes. OP, take the 20-30% raise you're being recruited for.
