It's like we went backwards from Reagan to Carter going from Trump to Biden.

I can tell you that our expenses at my business have jumped 30% YoY.

I'd like to see them calculate inflation the same way they did when Carter was Pres and compare. Would be an interesting exercise.

This. 7.5 may be the "official" number, but something closer to 15%+ is much more accurate.

Meanwhile my multi-billion dollar international company decided to give all employees ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS for a Christmas bonus last year, which was $60 after taxes (completely serious). Phuckin JFL.

I'm sure raising rates 0.5% and merelyreducingQE will effectively fight inflation LOL

It’s not so much the basket of goods but the fact they “look through” what they claim to be one-off or short term increases in prices in specific goods (which makes zero sense because, like, those prices were still paid) and also I feel they don’t weight “housing costs” enough because for most people that’s a huge part of their ongoing expenditures

It’s way higher than that and it’s not even close. A luxury apartment outside of the city I was looking at moving into at the beginning of the pandemic was just over $1,000 per month (nice building in low COL area), now they’re advertising $1,650. That’s almost a 40% increase in less than 2 years. Makes no fuking sense.

The true rate of inflation is closer to 20%.

And it’s not just housing. Anyone who has shopped at a grocery store in the past year can attest to the insane rise in cost of goods. Some items are up over 50% in a single year.

Meanwhile our wages are absolutely stagnant. I haven’t had a meaningful raise in over two years. My employer offered me a measly 3% after singing my praises about how wonderful of a worker I am during my annual review. So I’ve looked elsewhere. Well it seems the only companies hiring during this “labor shortage” are fast food restaurants that pay minimum wage. I’ve submitted dozens of white collar job offers in recent weeks, but have yet to hear back from even one.

/rant

Tl;dr: We’re fuked.
