Will be avoiding this thread like the plague because of moderation being slow. This is my favorite exclusive of all time and I am extremely pumped to play it. Usually when I finish games, after a week there would be so many parts I'd forget, but with Horizon I have so many memories after multiple playthroughs and hundreds of hours spent in the world.

I think my obsession with this one is mostly due to me being a huge fan of sci fi and also games set in ancient times. This was the series that combined both worlds and made it make sense.

I have a feeling this sequel is gonna be extremely special. Won't get to play it for another 3 weeks but I hope everyone who does before me has a blast.

Was about to make this thread earlier, mgtpgoat.


Game is pre-loaded and ready ... It's a whopping 87 GB. Here I thought the Kraken was gonna compress it... But cant wait.

I dont think I've negged anyone in this section. The way I see it, it's a relatively small community here with a handful of regular posters talking about a hobby we all enjoy .. People should feel free to discuss things but also be mindful of posting things that might be a detriment to someone else's enjoyment of any game. Trolls and chitposters can go to the main misc.


The last of us thread was a real chitshow and made me lose hope in that though lol, people just freely posting spoilers and screens of the gam. Most of them havnt even played the game but yet they just post up pics they see on four-chan derailing the thread and ruining it for people actually playing the game.

I remember people were review bombing tlou across the web trying to cancel Podcasts who gave the game a good review. As far as making death threats and vile comments. People get that hateful about politics. Doesn’t feel right or like it belongs in the gaming community

Yea, I only neg for 3 reasons, negging me, negging someone simply because their opinion made you cry, and posting spoilers. Besides that it's all love here.

Anyone else feel like they need to replay the first one before hand? Been so long I've forgotten most of the subplot and all of the game mechanics. Just not sure I want to gring it out again.

Never heard of this, and don't have a Playstation. I looked it up and i see there's a prequel available for PC for $60. Worth it?

fantastic game but $60 is a little steep considering how old the original ps4 game is. ive seen the ps4 game go down to like $10 on the ps store

i would wait for a price drop

I'm replaying it before I buy Forbidden West, that's what I do with every sequel game.

Full price is definitely steep considering the age, I bought it on PC for fairly cheap during one of the Epic store sales, I'm pretty sure I picked it up for $25CAD.

Definitely buying it but I personally thought the first game was mediocre. I know Guerilla took a risk so I’ll give them another chance.

Didn’t help that I played this game off the back of RDR2 (unfair I know). The world was beautiful but felt dead so I hope the immersion is vastly improved upon in this one.

Also interested to see how they improve significantly while still catering for the PS4.

Already pre ordered Elden Ring but I'll 100% come back to this, HZD was my second Plat ever after Bloodborne. Probably wait for a price drop since I'm not playing it at launch, and I'm still hoping I can score a PS5. The gameplay videos look incredible on crappy youtube compression on a phone screen, cannot imagine how good this will look in person.

Currently nan 89 on metacritic. Obviously na great score but I'd say a bit dissapointing considering what I was hoping for from this title. Looking forward to listening to some reviews at work today and getting thoughts.

Same score as the first game, if you liked/loved the first, you'll be happy. I was hoping for more a real evolution but a good game is a good game

Favor Resolution Mode: 30fps, native 4k most of the time, but dynamic, so there are some resolution drops occasionally

Favor Framerate Mode: 60fps, 1800p but checkerboarded to get there, but also dynamic resolution scaling. So 1080p native, then checkerboarded up, I think??

feels like this game and forza horizon 5 show why a cross gen period really hasn't been as bad as some were worried about.

ps4: half the resolution of native 1080p checkerboarded to 1080p.
ps4 pro: checkerboarded to 3200x1800p, so about 1/3 less than the originals 3840x2160 (checkerboarding to get there).

Makes sense they lowered resolution compared to the original, since this game is more graphically impressive.

ps5 resolution: Native 4k, 30fps

John from DF saying in his review he played most of the time in 4k 30 as opposed to the 1080 checkerboarded to 1800 at 60 has me intrigued. Had pretty much assumed I’d go with the fps. But maybe I’ll try to stomach 30 first.

I’m off on Fridays so I’ll get up and hit the gym and then get to playing. Pretty excited! Though I wish there was an extra week in between this and ER.

I will choose 60 every time when given the option. Even if it’s 1080p, even if it’s lowered settings lol. Since getting my series x I’ve had the option to switch modes in a few seconds to actually make comparisons, couldn’t do that before. 30 is awful IMO. But if there is no option, I can adjust and get used to 30

Most of the time I’ll choose 120 over 60 when given the option as well. But the difference isn’t nearly as big as 30 vs 60

I do think mid gen consoles would be beneficial, probably holiday 2024. And just push the gen out until 2028 or even 2029.

Matrix demo was 1080p/30.

Forbidden west’s performance mode is 1080p checkerboarded up to 1800p.

Dying light 2’s performance mode was 1080p/60. Ray tracing mode was 1080p/30.

Guardians of the galaxy performance mode was 1080p/60, in addition to lowered settings.

Check out some of the pop-in in skillups video ... wheww lawdy that was pretty bad lol.


But yeah, my disdain for this game being crossgen has lessened with these reviews, seeing the changes and upgrades they've added for the sequel makes it a very natural evolution for the series. It's great to see, and even more mindblowing is that its still running on a ps4. Hopefully dipping their toes into the ps5 version this early means that whatever guerrila builts ground up next for the ps5 will be absolutely mental because they have an idea now of how the system works.

Not sure which mode I'm gonna play, but most likely quality for that image quality and gfx goodness.
