5 tips on being a great boss/leader/supervisor/coach
1. Value what your employees say (even if the idea is unrealistic)
2. Solicit diverse opinions (make employees part of the decision-making process)
3. Give constructive feedback to your employees (employees know what they're doing right and what they need to work on/you get to see what the employee is skilled in and use that talent for more specific jobs in the future)
4. Be honest (employees want transparency and candor/ focus on the performance and not the personality of the employee)
5. Keep everyone informed (nobody wants to be left in the dark)
That is all.

I would definitely include not micromanaging in there. You could do everything else perfectly but if you're micromanaging employees they're gonna have a bad time.

This is a good list. If there is one perspective that I have gained through the years (with respect in particular to items 1, 2 and 5) is that the answers and the wisdom is usually in the room. Never underestimate the knowledge and insight that your team, or organization, holds. The disconnect is often what the DON'T know, or what I usually refer to as other facets of the issue to which they may not be exposed. They see an issue from their perspective usually better than anyone, but are not in a position to make a balanced decision which is what the leaders should be for. If you want them to not think you are an idiot for making the decisions that you do share with them your 10,000 ft. perspective on those other facets and get them to buy into the broader vision and they, in turn, will start sharing with you more balanced and useful insight.

Absolute load of crap. Here's the TRUTH:
1) Wear low cut shirts to assert dominance and to release pheromones that make employees complicit.
2) Offer ******* each morning.
3) Insist on nude steam room meetings.
4) Ask for 10% tithe on their salary.
5) Walk around with a scepter.

Being personable (counts out most of the Misc). Unless they are getting fired I try and get people to laugh at least once every meeting.
Don't pass the buck. Take responsibility for any screwups for your team even if they aren't your fault.
Get your hands dirty (same thing as leading from the front). Don't be afraid to do the **** jobs if they need to get done.

Give them a window of what you need done, and allow them the autonomy to do so under rules and regulations that are clearly defined.
