I've been away for a bit. Death in the family. My stepson was killed.

He was 33. His mom is doing as well as he can.

It appears it was an accident with a fire arm.

He was very close to me and my son.

Well. Here are the facts.

He was standing in his kitchen.
He had just got done talking to his GF and they had made plans for Valentines day.
There was an oblong head wound that killed him.
Like the bullet had come from below his head. Ran up the side of his face and into his temporal lobe.
There was no exit wound.
It appears he had an "oh **** moment where he put his hand to his head on the wound and got it bloody.
He fell backwards and died there.
His brother found him pretty soon after this and tried to revive him. There was a some movement but very little.
EMS came and they air lifted him to a hospital but he passed.

The gun involved was a Walther ppk. .380 acp.

I think he was trying to clear a jam on the gun by holding it pointing towards the ceiling with his right hand and pulling the slide with his left.
This was obviously a mistake.
The gun went off and caused the wound that slid up the side of his head and killed him.

He had also been trying to sell the gun about a month before.

The coroner says he has 27 years of experience and it looked like an accident to him and that is how he is going to rule it once tox and the police report come back.

seems very very fishy

as a police officer I have never heard of an accidental self discharge to the head, 100% of the headshots have been suicide or murder.

My condolences but man, just sounds weird. I really dont know why someone trying to clear a jam would point the gun at themselves

Why was he also trying to clear a jam in a loaded gun in the kitchen? If you drop the mag and rack the slide the bullet in the chamber should come out, most blockages happen when you are live firing, and I dont know why he was live firing in the kitchen or trying to clear a jam in the kitchen.

I know there are some odd elements to it. The reason he was messing with the gun in the kitchen is because he did leather work in there. He made holsters and such.
I'm still waiting to see what the coroner says officially. Maybe he dropped the gun... I don't know. I talked to him for about an hour before the day it happened and we were having a good time. His life was going well and he was excited about it. He and his new gf were in the honey moon phase and she was heart broken about it.

BUT... yes. There are some very odd elements to it.

oh I didnt say it was suicide I just said a headshot 100% of the time I have seen has been suicide, murder, or someone else accidentally discharged the weapon while it was pointed at someone, but even that is rarely a head shot, to own a real live weapon and to point the barrel at your head ever is weird. No one I know is even very comfortable pointing an unloaded weapon at their head/face.

youre missing the point you can have evidence for the other scenarios of murder or someone else accidentally discharging.. but if its neither of those you are just assuming it was suicide when it could have been an accident. Unless there is a witness no one knows

Sorry for your loss but that method of clearing a a direct blowback pistol like a PPK and having a finger in the trigger guard is very unlikely for several reasons.
