Born in 91 here. Been talking to a lot of my friends in the same age range about this recently and EVERYONE has the same story. For you brahs around the same age, when you were kids did your parents act like we were all going to crash and die if you ever turned the light on in the car at night?? We didnt have game boys with lights on them early on so on long road trips you literally couldn't see the screen at night unless you turned on a light in the car. And every time without fail, it seems like everyone's parents would freak the f out and act like they are now blind and cant see the road. Why??? its not an issue at all for me to drive like that these days. Is that some thing our grandparents instilled in our parents for some reason?

It’s a distraction, that’s it.

It makes it harder to see out of the rear window, and it can cause glare on the rear view. It certainly distracts but it doesn’t “bother” me like it did to my parents or anybody of that generation.

Point is yes lol, I remember mom always freaking out when it was turned on. Ahh nostalgia

Well consider that headlamps on most 90's and all pre-90's cars totally sucked and you could barely see ahead of you and that little bit of glare could make a huge difference. Also that was before they had reflectors on the road, reflective paint on the signs and reflective pait on the road lines. Even high beams were borderline useless.

Its a distraction and takes away from your vision of whats outside the car but otherwise not a big deal.
