What you don't realize, is that an adult reading at a 4th grade level, is not actually 'only' reading at a 4th grade level. They just have unique, rich, cultural modes and dialects of communication that we should respect and embrace.

But this is to be expected, the traditional Chinese written system is based on unique characters to communicate speech. There are well over 100,000 documented unique characters, and around 10,000 characters are used in daily speech and communication.
