Misc Mathematicians

Can you guys give me a formula to figure out fishing line?

Namely how much of 1 size line equals a certain length of another?

I’m guessing it’s 100 yards the pound is the size of the mono.

I did the math and you're correct.

100 yds = 100 yds

Mono is larger diameter than braid.

So 100 yards of 8lb mono takes up more spool than 100 yards of 10 lb braid

I believe 8lb mono is .25mm thick and 10lb braid is only .15mm.

That's a big difference.

x - 1 = 349

x = 350

Cheers.

this is like middle school math. assume the density is the same for both.

look up equation for volume of a cylinder.

for braid just use the diameter they give you

Just a rough stab at it.

I used to lose about 100-150 feet per 10 pound increase in line strength on a Penn long beach 60. I was never running anything below 20 pound test though

Right now everything is rigged on 8lb mono for the shad run.

But in April I want to put 100yds of 10lb braid on my spinning reels. So I am trying to figure out how much mono to strip and leave it as backing that way I can get 3 reels done with 1 spool.

100 yards of 10 pound would pretty much max out a smaller spincast I'd think.

It holds 220 yards of .235 mm which I think is 30lb braid

So how much would I need to strip to put 100yds of .15mm braid?

75 yards 80 yards? 62yrds?

You are all stem guys and engineers what's the answer?
