Ever gotten lost in the woods?

I got lost in the woods in Idaho for like 8 hours when I was 12. Was scary as chit, I could hear the wolves howling near me

I had a .22 but that wouldn’t do much against a grizzly

Yes but only for like an hour, was hiking a two day loop along a river and lost the trail

A few years ago, yeah. Me and my mates were bushwalking, and it was getting close to dark. We didn't have torches and I told my mate that youdo notF around in the bush/woods after dark. He was obsessed with finding this structure in the woods he was adamant was there, and took off right as the dark was descending. I had a choice to either go after him, or use the precious time left to make it back to the car before nightfall and get a torch.


I was still in the bush at nightfall, and it was literally pitch black. I was only a few dozen metres from the exit to the car though, couldn't imagine how scary it would be to be stuck in there further in without any source of light. Complete death sentence. We went back in with torches and found him a little way in.


Plus, I listen to a lot of missing 411 and disappearance podcasts. Was scared chitless when the dark started descending.

I was lucky to make it back before dark or I would’ve been fuked

Yes, but willingly. I was following the river bank so not technically lost but my friend and I had scoped out a spot to go wilderness camping and we didn't know what to expect. Not technically lost, but definitely the unknown.

Wolves howling close by at night, though. Stoking the fire.

Wouldnt say lost but defintely disoriented when hunting. I knew I'd get out at some point but was getting dark. Pretty fkn scary feeling for sure.

Not the woods but got lost on the Yorkshire moors once pissed out of my head with a mate. You can die out there.

We just picked a direction and walked in it which was probably dumb as **** but after about 4 hours of trudging through streams and trees and marshy wetland we got back to civilization.

Worst I nearly got lost at sea in a dingy with no lights at night

I made a wrong turn leaving the bay and going backwards, had to turn around and it was already getting dim and could hear big boats speeding near me but not visible. Traveling in a boat going only 20mph takes awhile. Crossed the bay and went to the river to my house at the time. By that time couldn’t see chit


Also one time I got caught in a rough tide that sunk my kayak and I was clinging to a bouy pole. Luckily a passer by saw and rescued me

This would be my greatest fear. Floating in an endless ocean...nothing as far as the eye can see. Fuuuarrkkkkk

Yeah I’d never go into the next bigger body of water in a dingy which was the patuxent River. In The bay at least there is land visible

Once you got close to the inlet leading to the bigger body of water winds and waves get a lot choppier, they can change on a dime too. Approached it once and decided to never try again

Honestly, sometimes I wish I could just disappear into the woods. Find a nice little grove, sunlight streaming through. Fairies dancing about and skirting into the brush as I appear. Then - what's that? A crack, a whisper of light streaming by, I emerge in an open meadow where forest critters scurry about. And then, I see it. The fabled sword of legends. With bated breathe I approach it, my quivering hands reaching out and clasping on it's oddly warm hilt. I pull, much like the antithesis or opposite of what I would do to a woman's bubbly crap factory with my own natural shaft. It comes out smoothly, as if light as a feather. A warmth flows through my arms and into my heart. I have done it. I have pulled out the master sword.

This is legit terrifying. Being lost in the woods is definitely scary but floating in the endless ocean has to be a feeling of helplessness like no other. Glad you made it, SRS

I tried. I wanted to die in the woods rather than face my "home". lol. It sucked. When I was about five or so I was abandoned by my foster fam, and so I ran away. The thing is though, what I found out later is that there is a survival instinct that brings one back to the campsite (where ever one slept and ate.) So I ended up wandering back in a big circle. I got corn holed again by the felon on parole. Fml. My fantasy was just being free. But now that I'm older I see that it would just be a nightmare after the cold and hunger sets in.

Definitely - At least in the woods you have a chance of stumbling upon some shelter or finding your way out. In the ocean, you need to pray to God a boat comes by and sees you before a shark makes you dinner.
