Working sucks & yet never working seems like it'd suck too
Am I right when I say that working part-time would be the goat/ideal lifestyle? At least I'd have some sort of structure, but damn working day in & day out for the man is so boring & draining (I need to pay bills though). My gut tells me that indulging in pleasure non-stop would get old too. How did you guys fix this issue for those that can relate?

Workaholic crew, in 7 years the longest I've had off was the 2 weeks they made me take for covid. Dunno, I just feel like I need to work and be productive, 56+ hours a week for years now. Going out for 4 months in April for ankle surgery and I'm going to go insane.
Short cuts to success are often paved with lies.

5/10/16: Finally back to lifting, light but improving.

Been out of work for about 6 months from an injury with 2 broken ribs and a broken wrist that required surgery.
First few months obviously sucked cause I was thrashed, but it's been awesome since I healed up.
Friends always asking me how I don't get bored... Easily....if you're bored then your ****in boring. I wish I could never go back and I feel like this 6 month hiatus has ruined me. Longest I haven't worked in 15 years. It's so nice never having that fear of missing out or feeling like I don't have enough time to do something.

Something ive come to realize or think about is working for someone else sucks, but finding a way to work for yourself is best. With that said thats not a big revelation and not everyone is going to be able to find a way to make that work. So the second best option is accepting your work and finding a way to make it enjoyable. And on the side figure something out.

that's why I became a contractor so I can set my own hours. Now instead of just working a 40 hour week, I work about 100 hours a week and lot of that I don't get paid for. Did i goof?

I don't hate working or my job, but I don't derive fulfillment from it either and there are things that I would much rather be doing....but those things require money and my job supplies me with that....so here we are.
If I could make my salary and work less, it'd be a no brainer....but (not to brag) making 6 figures in an area where the average income is $30k and the average house is $157k has it's perks and I have expensive hobbies/projects
Every couple of months I'll take a wed/thurs/fri off and do the projects/things I want to do.....but also taking that many days off makes the first day back to work hell. Longest I've been off/not working (or what I would consider real work) in that last 13 years was about 3 months when we moved to the Virgin Islands. I had a chit ton of savings and just picked up here and there jobs for cash but after 3 months I had had enough and knew I needed a real job.

Opening a business then making a ton of sacrifices to profitability in order for a good work environment, happy employees, and happy customers is pretty nice.
Still has business headaches and if you check all those boxes your profits will probably suck especially if you skip out on work a lot for families and hobbies. But it checks the box for “was I productive” and helps you feel good about yourself with not a whole lot of stress unless the business actually starts going under.
Doesn’t really work if you NEED to make money tho. Then you should probably be smarter with the business.

My dream is to have a sort of homestead and maybe work part time.
Have a garden and raise livestock...could even sell some stuff at a farmers market. That gives you the productive feeling of working but it's for yourself to be semi self sufficient.
I've always loved working outside doing landscaping type stuff.

I'm a part time guy. Working full time is absolute chit. I was never able to find a job outside of military and contracting that gave me enough motivation or drive to really put effort in. I never really fully re-integrated back into the civilian lifestyle, so I only do part time to keep my stress levels down. People are chit and so are civilian jobs. I get more time with my wife and kids, which is what I really care about.
