More car fun. Track day coming @VIR in a week!!! Ready to go!
Sharing a little more fun car stuff. Weather is breaking and we have our first track event of the year coming up next week at Virginia International Raceway.
My little Lotus has undergone a ton of upgrades over the winter. Supercharger, upgraded fueling, racing clutch, suspension bushing to hard mounts, new steering arms (more camber and quicker turning), new track brakes....etc.
The car now runs like a raped ape and I have no trouble running with the 'big boys' in the high hp exotics. (advantages of only weighing 1900lbs). It can certainly out turn them all day long!
Really looking forward to this. We were just there before Thanksgiving. It will be my son's second time running the track also and he is still 14 which I just think is awesome. Really it is sharing it with him that I love the most. He has not been able to drive the car yet, (because he cant legally drive) and he is going to be shocked as sh!t when he gets out on the track with it! I am gonna try to get him out on some back roads this weekend so he can at least get used to new clutch.
Will post some cool updates from the event.

do you have a car lift in your garage? man...would absolutely love that. Just to be able to zone-out working on your car must be bliss in a nice, spacious heated garage.

Can't tell if you're running the RR or 888R. How do you like them on the track? I've heard so many conflicting opinions on the 888R which is what I run on my Ultima but haven't tracked it yet.

I am considering sourcing a spare set of wheels so I can run full slicks at the track, but I will have to have them custom made since my offsets are not something you can buy off shelf. Can't tell if you're running the RR or 888R. So when these wear out I am going to try something else. This car is so light it does not go through tires. I think I have 3 track days on these and I probably will get most of this year out of them still. Compared with a 3RS which getting 3 track days is about the limit on a set of tires.

I think before I bought one, I would buy something else and get a miata as well I could track and modify for a lot less.Love it man! What do you think of the new Toyota GR86 platform?

I've been kicking around a fun car to buy since my Hellcat was stolen last August. I keep waivering. At first I wanted a C7 z06, then an 18 Audi RS5, I've looked at some Exige, older Porsches. I just don't know.

Power is easy to get but you are looking at 15-20 in mods (which will devalue the collector nature of these cars as they have become highly desirable). You might look for a salvage car to turn into your fun car and then you dont have to put 50-70 in from the start. Where you save a lot on the lotus are running costs. A GT3RS gets maybe 3 track days out of a set of Cup R's. So 500/ session just in tires. Then you have brakes and other maint. The lotus is very cheap (relatively) to run.
Vettes are a easy car to play with. C7 ZO6's have shot way up in value. But they are a nice car on the road and can jump on a track for sure.
The car market in general is nuts. My H is for sale currently and I had thought I was going to go 720s. But I am just unsure with the way things are going. Part of me wanted to build a Ultima RS but I dont know that I want to dedicate the time right now.
It is really hard to say and I am somewhat jaded. My current H is about the fastest thing on the street, besides a PLAID, and a 720s or 765LT are the only stock cars that can take it, and I will beat them off the line all day.
Truth is, I am happiest with this little lotus. I love building things and working on them. I have fallen in love with this little car like no car I have ever had. My Huracan is almost boring now and it has just been sitting in trickle charge.

I've always thought Elise/Exige would be the perfect balance between a good track car with reasonable running costs which you can actually also drive to the track.
How tricky is it over the limit? The short wheelbase with mid engine must be a bit twitchy.

You feel more back from it than any car I have ever driven so limits are predictable. The second vid is same track in my white lotus. This was before power mods but suspensions mods, nitron dampners, better rubber. You can see how many more g's I can consistently pull in corners. I have not found the limit of the white car yet in cornering. But the orange one just pushed oversteer, vs snap turn like a 911 will.
The more modded you get, the finer this line becomes. I dont have any vids since power and brake mods. Should be a different car now and super excited to see how it behaves. That said, I am not pushing the envelope too had. Just out there to have fun and come back in one piece!

I see your track car and raise you a 917.
Want to race .... it's like a 911, but +6 digits. More digits = more slow, so I'm sure you'll win.

917 is an absolute death trap, especially on non-track roads. The top of the roof is only ~30'' off the ground, so you don't even come to the wheel arches on a smaller car like a civic ... and forget about comparing to where you sit vs a truck like an F150, lol.

Did you build them yourself? The 917 sounds like it would be insane. Do you ever track?
My only critical comment is get some crazy livery on those things!

But on big courses like VIR, I would be hitting an aero wall and the HP of the 500 would run to 160-165 on the back straight.
So much of this stuff come down to driver. There is NO denying the awesomeness of the GT500 and what a great platform it is. But I would say I think the Lotus is more fun to drive. The cars now have so many layers between the road and the driver. DCTs are awesome for performance numbers, but they take away so much of the engagement and in that the fun.
I have had my 860hp supercharged huracan on the track, and could even reel in GT3RS but the lotus is WAY more fun AND challenging to drive even though I am technically going slower.
This is a vid the my H on the track. I was not going all out and was nervous I would make my son car sick, but you can see with the sheer power, I can just reel in people even thought I am not the best driver. Its fun, but not as engaging as the lotus.

Here is a cool vid. A bone stock 180 hp elise running on track with a C6 Z06
You can see what the difference is in the corners even stock on stock tires. Obviously it gets obliterated on straights.
The platform is very easy to modify and you can transform them into a little track monster. The cars are all hand built, so working on them is easy. Everything comes apart and you can lift the entire front and rear off the car for easy work.
The only 'bad' thing is the spike in value. A nice elise is about 50 now and not hard to put 15-20 in mods for track prep and then the car is probably worth LESS than the stock car since they are becoming collectible. Best bet is to find one already modded, or even better a salvage car to track.
This shows you how the car breaks down for ease of work

We had a great day at VIR. I left with great memories and a slightly bruised ego. Car ran great. My son ran the best he ever has.
This little car is a monster! Short vid of my getting to play with a GT2RS which is putting out 800hp plus. On the straights he pulls like nuts but the lotus tracks him down in the turns. Pretty amazing for this little car.
Towards end of day I was a little tired and had a lapse in concentration. The 'uphill esses' have taken out more than their fair share of drivers. Now I can add to the list. I glanced down to note my exit speed (which I should have never done) and missed my apex on the top right hand turn by about 1 1/2'. I ended up dropping a tire off the top by the same distance at about 100mph. Tried to correct gentle, but snap turned it and went backwards into the grass.
Could have been WAY worse and a good lesson to know when you have had enough running for the day and not break your attention. Underbelly pan got messed up a touch. We took it off and my son went out a few more times and we called it a day.
Nothing like track macros! Lucky to have some great friends and share doing things like this. My son still 14 and has had two full sessions on VIR full course. Just makes me smile to sit back and ride shot gun to him!

Really insane to imagine that I get to do this. I have said before about effect others have on your life and to be careful with whom you surround yourself with. If it were not for my friends I would NEVER have imagined doing this. They encouraged me to come out to the track. They allowed a 14 year old to drive with them and even encouraged it.We all continually reinforce and support each other. Leading up to track day I bought a trailer early and spent an evening till midnight working in the rain to get the winch fixed because the trailer he had lined up fell through. I told him there is no way he was not making it. Just everyone is like that. Lift each other up, support and encourage. It is not cheezy. We are all grown men. We have all achieved various levels of success in life. From a legit billionaire, to those who are just hard working and can afford to go out and race. No egos, no airs. No dik fighting. We all want to see each other do well.
It is others in life who will make you successful. There is no such thing as a 'self-made' man. Being man enough to give and get respect go a long way. Choose friends wisely. I have ZERO room in my life for people that are negative. Life is good fellas. For a guy who has been though many things, there is no such thing as a 'bad' day! Just some not as great as others.

The lotus is a special car though. I have fallen head over heals for it and over the winter, I about doubled it's power output. It only weighs 1900lbs so it gets up an moves.
My other 'fun' ride is a 860hp supercharged Huracan. It has been sitting in my garage on the trickle charger and not even driven in a month. Just having so much fun with the lotus. A photog posted this pic he took of my car, and it almost makes me want to go out and drive it
. But Lotus truly has my heart.

Needless to say, he won the event. The next closest driver in his class was almost 8 seconds slower! The funny part is all the people in his class trailered in with extra tires. He drove the car to and from the track 3 hours both ways.Mirin hard bro. Repped!

My other buddy drives a Radical SR8. In our day at the track which was a private and 'unsanctioned' event, he 'unofficially' broke the all time Full Course record in a Radical by .4 sec. And he felt he did not even have the right gears for the track.

My buddy sent me some in-car vid of him chasing me down. I have been told how much my car shoots flames on the track with current tune, but this is really crazy. Normally you dont see them during the day, but it looks like a little dragon
This is the part of VIR called the Uphill Esses. SUPER fun, but scary as well. So many great memories from that day. I have more power on him, but he out brakes me.
