There is obviously a difference between a pair of dollar store sunglasses and a pair that cost $150-$200, but anything beyond that is absurd.

I have about $150 pair of Ray Band Aviators I wear. I have had to buy a new pair like three or four times leaving them places.

I don't ever think I would buy a 400 pair of strictly sunglasses.


The only difference is the name on the label and price. Like, what else would make a pair worth that much? I don't feel a label alone justifies that purchase.

I tried on some luxury ones a while back and I could deffo feel the difference in the quality, weight and fit.

Yes, some of them will be overrated and no different and some will be worth every penny. I really liked Cazal and Prada.

Ultimately, they will probably make you feel a certain way, maybe increase your confidence or self esteem, which is probs why so many people buy designer goods.

breh. you just pissed me off. a few years ago i took my car in to a shop. between that repair and by the time they finished they sold the business. so some of the workers must have felt entitled to my chit because i wasn't going to be seeing them again

I have a pair of Gucci’s that are about $400 and the style is dope, but the quality is worse than $100 pairs.

I think SALT and Oliver Peoples are around that price, and I think they are actually good looking and really good quality. Especially SALT.

I ordered a pair of Matsudas that were like a grand expecting them to be super high quality because they are made in Japan and they were absolutely sht. They were so flimsy and cheap, returned them the same day.

This is just stupid. Swiss watches have been some of the best purchases you could have made in the last 70 years LOL.

If you bought pretty much any mens rolex watch in the 70 years it’s worth significantly more than the retail you paid for it. Every Rolex store is 100% empty right now, if you can buy a mens watch at full retail plus tax you can instantly sell it for a profit

They're all pretty much made by Luxxotica or Safilo, so there is some pretty steep diminishing returns after maybe $200. I have some polarized ray-bans that I think cost around $150-200 and they serve me well enough. Years ago we had a client that had a glasses store and he had his own line. He hand made the frames out of solid gold and retailed them for well over $1000 (this is like 10 years ago so today they'd probably be 2-3x that). Probably not worth it but at least there's a bit more substance than a plastic frame getting punched out of a machine.

I don't buy luxury/designer brands but I've been gifted quite a few items from my GF who works on the retail side of designer accessories/jewelry.

From watches, to sunglasses, to a wallet and a couple of bags. In my opinion most of the higher end stuff is just priced by the name. They still make them cheaply and have a massive markup on the prices based on branding.

The only value to them is they maintain their value and the resell potential exists. But you rarely will even brake even if you try to do that unless its a limited addition/ collectors item. The only real appeal to higher end/designer items is branding and styling. IE you want people to see you using/owning that item because its a status symbol.

As far as Rolex goes, it's falling into the same trap that graphics cards, game consoles, rare whiskey, and other "covid crazes" have gone: flippers are manipulating the market.

2 years ago, with the exception of some rare editions(again, marketing scam), values of Swiss watches did not go up. It will return to that market soon enough.
