Was this a mistake?

At my Superbowl gathering a friend started flossing their teeth around the food buffet. I asked them to please do it in the bathroom. The response was: "I'm done." Kind of uncomfortable.

I haven't heard from this friend since. Should I have just let this go on, or was I right to speak up?

What kind of barbarian would floss their phucking teeth at a Superbowl party, let alone near the phucking food.

OP you are in the wrong here, should have curb-stomped this pleb to assert dominance amongst your tribe. Now everyone probably thinks of you as a passive-aggressive beta.

I've seen people use floss picks in front of everyone at work. It's weird af. Same thing with people who trim their fingernails at work in front of everyone and just let the nail clippings fly everywhere.

I hear you, breh. I don't get it either. One dude I work with trims his fingernails in front of everyone at work while letting the nails fly wherever they may, digs abouta 1/4" up his nose with his fingers, picks at his teeth with his fingers, sticks his fingers in his mouth just for the hell of it, etc. Oh, and he seldom washes is hands, and never after doing any of the gross hygenic habit chit, of course.

Oddly enough, the dude gets a total pass on that neanderthal behavior because he's socially popular within our direct work space. Ironically, the dude frequently jives about how he "doesn't understand why some people think he's an assshole, lol" (and a lot of people do think of him as an assshole outside of the direct work area). I'm like dude... maybe if people are frequently explaining to you that you're kinda an assshole, maybe eventually consider taking it to heart, because that won't be that frequent of an occurrance if you aren't a prick.

Like you said, bottom line is, they're mongoloids, and unfortunately, there isn't much to be done about it. Anyone who makes it to adulthood being such a fkn moron isn't likely to change it beyond that point.

If your friend was under the age of 8 or 9 you did fine.
Children can be corrected by adults because there's a hierarchy among normal people.
Generally if an adult corrects another adult on any kind of hygiene issue it's a faux pas, especially if in public, but true also even in private. Better to have simply avoided him during future formal events such as your next black tie superbowl party (where fart decibel levels are apparently highly regulated) than to have caused him unnecessary shame.

I'm starting to feel like Larry David with these situations.
