Is trading with unsettled funds trading with margin?

Nah, you'll only be able to trade with the unsettled fund amount. You can buy with unsettled funds, so long as you don't sell before they settle. That's a Good Faith Violation and gets you a slap on the wrist. Margin trading is trading with borrowed money.

TLDR: Trading with unsettled funds is trading with your own money that hasn't settled yet. Margin trading is trading with the brokerage's money.

You can do a quick transfer and invest immediately. You just can’t use it to day trade until it settles. (Or rather they will flag you and investigate wtf you are doing)
