The first day back is always great for some reason

So why take vacations

It’s great to be on vacation but after a couple weeks I start getting homesick

Not really, brb depression for 1-2 weeks after returning to your "normal" routine life with responsibilities, seeing the same people, same things, and what not

Absolutely agree with you.
Always love the vacations, but once you are back, sliding into your home bed's sheets and crash out, is so great.
Tooling around in your car for that first time after a hiatus is also a kind of a special fun.

I also find that after 2-3 days back, I hit a low where I realize I am back in the grind already, and get a bit depressed.
Nowadays, I try to plan something in advance out of the ordinary/special to do after being back home a week or so, to try and dispel this feeling.

These are normally 4-week or so vacations or business trips, so the feelings above are perhaps more impactful than for shorter trips.

Most of my trips are short so I don’t get that feeling usually. But after a week or two yeah it’s nice being home. Mostly because I’ll drink myself silly every night and sleep like ****.
