Our justice system is absolutely ****ed. I can't comprehend how someone that shoots another person in the head can plea down and serve just half of a joke of a sentence. There is blood on everyone's hands that was involved in the plea and sentencing. He should have been locked away for life after shooting someone in the head. When the **** will our justice system help protect society by actually imposing harsh sentences for violent offenders. I am raging over our joke of a justice system.

Violent criminals should really just be executed. You got your one chance to be a normal person and you blew it. Time to eat a bullet.

It's a huge problem. Aside from victims and their families/loved ones, I think no one understands this problem more than cops (might be by bias). I hate when I arrest someone for burglary/robbery,etc. and learn that they've been arrested for similar things 10, 20, sometimes 30ish times. It's absolutely ridiculous. Of course, this doesn't mean they've been convicted of everything, and also doesn't mean they didn't get all the sentences served concurrently, and then released early on probation - similar to what OP was eluding to.

We need more prisons. Sorry libs, but America has unique problems and comparing our prison population to Norway just isn't going to do us any good. More prisons, fill em up. God knows there are people in the country that deserve to be in there. More parole and probation officers and more social workers attached to them to help get them right when they're released back into the wild. With this added help, should absolutely come added punishments for violators.

We also really need to focus on stopping single parent households, all these kids raised without father figures, and stop incentivizing idiots having more children for profit and getting more government handouts. This is as much of an issue as the police targeting high crime areas leading to people living (and committing crimes in those areas) growing up with a record/justice system issues.

Agreed with the above. We need more prisons. We need stiffer sentences for violent acts. I also can't comprehend concurrent sentences.... it's all a joke. Meanwhile innocent people are being victimized by violent people that served a soft sentence.

The people responsible for his release should be held accountable for his actions as well. Promise you that when these parole board members and judges realize they might end up in prison or some type of action that will effect them negatively this won't happen. At least not very often.

I know a girl who was raped, and I don't mean date raped I mean guy forced himself in her home, beat the hell out of her and raped her something serious and they caught him and it was his 3rd offense and had been convicted of the same thing only a year earler but only served 6mo in jail.

People do need to be held accountable for atrocious and harmful decisions. They are largely responsible for enabling violent people to reoffend. I honestly cannot fathom the desire for leniency on violent people. I cannot wrap my head around it. They've already wrecked people's lives so now we're going to release them after a short sentence and they will likely reoffend and ruin more lives. This should not be a political stance. You would think the left and right would be in lock step for stiffer penalties, but they are not. Crazy world.

It could be worse, this could have happened in the UK where second time around he would get "life" which means he'd probably be out in 15 years.

There are a few factors at play.

-Prosecutors may not have a strong enough case for guaranteed conviction so they work a plea.
-Prosecutors don't want a L on their record if its not a slam dunk so they work a plea.
-Prosecutors have a large case-load and can't take them all to trial so they take as many pleas as possible.



If you don't like it go to law school and become a prosecutor for the government. Its not an easy job and they make 10X as much in the private sector so go figure. You've really gotta care about justice to do the job long term.

Thank God that this monster has been given life plus 10 now. It shouldn't have taken this women's horrific torture for him to be locked up for good though (hopefully). He was already a violent felon who had blown multiple chances at proving he was at least semi-civilized.

Phuck these insane, liberal criminal reform laws which just result in violent thugs going back out into the streets to commit more crime. Lock them up and keep the law abiding majority safe.
