Do you all really use 30% of your income for housing?

It just seems like a lot, I don't think I've ever paid more than 25% of my gross income for rent in my entire life.
As a matter of fact, as of right now, it's about 5.8%. ( no I don't live at home with my parents)

pretty close

but I also have a wife who makes more than me and I am only counting my income and the total mortgage/insurance/tax cost, although we split it.

Also the value we are paying is half the value of the house so that also puts me more at ease.

Before buying a house I likes to stay around 20% gross or 30% take home max.

10% of gross goes to mortgage. The other 90% go to groceries, Amazon, and gas.

Apparently my rent is 20% of my after taxes / net income, closer to 15% of my before taxes / gross income. I foresee it going up though but not to 30%.

Never did.

At present, my fully paid off house accounts for a very small (low single digit) % of my NW. All in housing costs (maintenance, utilities, etc.) are a similarly small % of my annual income.

after that i will need to pay about 0.5% of income in council fees and the rest is disposable.

When I bought my house it was about 33% of my income. Now it's less than 20%
