Are they complete trash or acceptable?

it puts the paint on the car.
however best paint job in the world will look like chit if the body isn't straight.
another place that does paint jobs will make sure the dents and dings are pulled and filled before priming and epoxying.
I think maco just tapes and sprays the car.

You have to do all the prep yourself, remove headlights, tail lights, trim, etc to get even an acceptable paint job from Maaco let alone a good paint job.Are they complete trash or acceptable?

It'll look alright for 7 months to a year and a half, long enough for you to get the thing sold. I can't imagine anyone doing that to a vehicle they weren't trying to flip

I had an IROC-Z painted by a local trade school, all I had to pay for was the paint. I inspected it twice in process and had a couple things I wasn't happy with that they fixed reasonably well.
If you're looking for a cheap paint job you might want to look into this route.
