Take away the crime and homelessness, city living is truly the GOAT. Wouldn’t want to live any other way 100% srs.

Unfortunately these problems are too great for most people to look past, so the suburbs have won the culture war.

These are really just US big city problems. International big cities don’t really have major homeless and crime problems

I like both. City is nice, but the country is so relaxing. No traffic, friendly people, low COL, etc.

You can even live in the suburbs and still have incredible bicycle/pedestrian infrastructure.

I agree with OP. I live in a top 15 city(US) right now, but loved every minute of my 3 years in NYC. So much potential for both fun and money. Loved things like movie night at Bryant Park during the summers, smorgasburg food market, and just being in the city for things like Christmas. Its pretty easy to burn out on city life, but when you visit your family in small towns, you understand why you left. The random crime sucks, but if you don't look out of place or stay out til 4 am like a degen, you won't be targeted.

That being said, I only like NYC. LA is okay, Philly was an absolute dump. DC is pretty cool. Never been to Boston, but I think I'd like it. SF is a chithole with good food.

Europe, East Asia, and oddly enough, Mexico City do big cities right.

Big cities in Canada, Australia, and most of Western Europe are generally pretty safe and livable. Some may have homeless problems as well as other issues like leftist politics and be unaffordable, but they are still great places to live all things considered.
