As someone who's spent thousands on car detailing supplies over the years my suggestion is a sealant like Opti-Seal. It's dead easy to apply, spray on, wipe off, no streaks, dries clear, lasts months.

With a wax if you miss a spot buffing it off or it gets a tight crevice or on the trim it dries white and looks like crap.

Detailing is all in the prep work. If your car has swirls all over it and you wax it it'll look great in the shade and horrible in the sunlight. Some waxes have fillers in them and will hide the swirls for a couple weeks but you're on borrowed time and it'll look like crap within a month.

Do the prep work, use a sealant and enjoy the low maintenance of using it.
