paid 15k for my 2 couches + ottoman. Will definitely keep them 10 years.
Real leather takes some time to break in, tends to hold up better if you take care of it. Nothing wrong w/ faux leather though TBH.

It's complicated. You should be aware going in that most [all?] cheap new furniture is low quality crap shipped in from China.
- constructed to minimize shipping costs
- soft/low quality wood/particleboard
- soft/bad quality hardware
- lightweight cheap foam and fiberfill
1] measure your space to find out the length and width you can accommodate without blocking walkways, windows/doors, sight lines, etc.
2] it is helpful to figure out the seat height and depth that you prefer [long legs may not like short seats and vice versa]
3] think about how long you expect to keep the furniture; do you move often? like to change decor? have children or pets?
I've bought the best cheap new furniture I could find when that made sense. We didn't move all of our stuff from TX to MI and we rented first. That was a charcoal gray microfiber sofa and love seat that were pretty good for 3 years or so before beginning to break down.
And I've also bought second hand higher quality furniture when I was expecting to be in one place for a long time without the money to buy something else anytime soon. It's an ugly dated floral tapestry fabric beast that weighs a ton, but it's comfortable and I still have it- paid $225 for sofa and two chairs.

I would probably check out something like The Dump, or an outlet for a high quality manufacturer. Lazy Boy used to be a decent made in the US brand, but I believe their product has been made in China for some time now and that the quality has suffered while their prices haven't dropped much.

I bought my recliner for 1k and my couch for 1.5k from la-z-boy about 15 years ago and they're both going strong.
It's crazy though that the price has doubled since then. Not sure if I could justify that today.

Honestly you get what you pay for many times. Have shopped at both and Ashley furniture always looks like crap after a couple years. Found that Living Spaces has decent quality at mid-range prices
Leather though..hell no. Cold in the winter, sticky in the summer, no thanks, hate leather unless interior of car
Also last year I went to Ashley to look for a lamp, they wanted to take my temp and my information before entering the store, told them to fuk off, won't be shopping there ever again.

Hey if you want to change your couch style every couple years.. go with a $1,000 one. That way once it's busted in two years, you can just chuck it and buy a new one!
$1k x 5 crap couches = 10yrs of couch use at $5k
$3k x 1 decent couch = 10yrs of couch use at $3k

I ge the cheaper couch because i dont want to have it forever. Styles change as well as my tastse so I dont want to be stuck with an old relic forever.
The best ones to buy are antiques or stuff like from the 30's leather. Built to last, always looks cool and not that pricey. They are old of course but just pay attention.

Leather will last 10x longer, it’s easier to clean and maintain and nothing smells better then using hot leather cleaner on a leather couch in your house.
Do you want to spend 1.5k every 3 years and it will start cracking/peeling
or 3k for 10 years where it just gets saggy and want to refresh but it’s still good that’s the question
I used to be a sales manager at Ashley’s furniture, just go long term 0% financing at either place and get the nicer furniture you want and that will last
I have my 5000$ leather sectional in white that looks literally brand new and it’s electric I’ve had 5 years now

if you try and find out what the product is made of they just offer vague descriptions like "100% leather". oh ya? what type of leather? top grain or the other $hit?
how would you guys even verify what its made of or where it comes from. you can't.

I've had both real and fake leather couches. Both look nice. But I suggest neither. Especially if you have or think you'll have kids in a few years.

You get what you pay for. After my entire adult life buying cheap furniture, last year we dropped $6k on a sectional from lazboy (wait until a sale, we got 40% off from $10k). Had to wait 8 months for it to be built but this thing is fukkin solid and should last decades.
