Last summer was in the market for a new TV for my living room

misc said you have to go with an OLED, they're the best on the market

did a bit of research, and got the LG - 65" Class CX Series OLED at bestbuy

on the TV's factory settings - the picture looked TOO real, like realer than real life. Like you could tell everything was a set and see all the makeup and weird chit like that. I dunno how to explain it, it's like the resolution was turned up past what actual real life is and I thought it looked terrible. I ended up switching the picture mode to "game mode" which made it look a lot better.]

anyways, I'm thinking about throwing this one in the bedroom and getting a bigger one for the living room, probably 75"

what is misc's recommendations for a 2022 TV given my complaint about the OLEDs picture? Anyone know what I'm talking about and think a different series of TV looks better?

The truth is these newer panels are overly processed garbage on a software level; you have to turn off every "smart" function manually or you lose the cinematic feel

To make things worse digital recordings will never look as good or feel the same as old-school film(on a technical level there's far less resolution definition than there used to be)


Turn off all processing features, set to the warmer "movie" mode for a better white-point, turn brightness down & for the color you'll have to put up with the overly saturated DCI-P3 space ingrained in them now(makes everything look almost cartoonish)

Literally the only good thing about modern panels is the screen size, everything else is a step backward

Your first mistake was buying LG

I've tried all the different picture modes, and ended up settling with the "game" one for most stuff. All of them just look a bit off to me though. Haven't messed with contrast and all that jazz though... fuark, do I look like a scientist to u?Interasting, will have to check this out. Ty sir.RIP

I've been a Japanese brand guy my entire life, but had heard Korean brands (specifically LG and Samsung) had caught up to the Japanese brands in terms of quality and they're generally always cheaper

Pretty much all this.

You want to bring the refresh rate down from 120hz to 60hz. But some TVs don’t call it that, they call it like “motion +” and crap like that.

Still stuck at realer than real life.
