Not knowing what happens after we die makes me anxious af

I did some bad things when I was younger (lived like a scumbag). I find that letting go of religion helps only up until my mind starts doubting that I could be wrong. How do you get over the unknown? (which could last an eternity). It feels like past actions had replaced the identity of who I used to be. Anyone relate to this chit?

Thinking it's probably nothing is what keeps me alive. I actually enjoy life a lot but I'm an adventurer and if I knew something existed after life, I'd want to explore it. Once you've done everything you wanted in life, you're just repeating variations of the same thing

If you are unsure of the existence of God and the afterlife, in my opinion, the best thing to do is live as if God and the Bible are real. This way, you’ve got your bases covered if God is real. Just get baptized and do the things Christians are supposed to do, despite being Agnostic.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe... Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion... I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain... Time to die.

Just do a large dose of shrooms and sit in a quiet dark room for several hours. You’ll realize very quickly there’s a whole different dimension our brain is not in tune with.

Start looking into experiences from people who have died and come back(NB4 edgelords cry about how they didn’t die). That’s the best glimpse you can get, and basically all of them that come back say they no longer fear death. That being said, this life is a gift and you should treat it as such. You have a chance to create and enjoy magical experiences, though there are also trials and tribulations built in.

I also recommend doing some shadow work so you can integrate your past demons and move forward as a better version of yourself so that you can improve the path ahead of you.

Sorry to tell you, but the chances of any of us even being born are astronomical & once you are gone that is it-doesn't matter if you were the nicest person ever or Hitler, there is no afterlife.

but we know. Nothing happens, you are asleep but without dreaming. You will never ever exist again just like you didn't exist for billions of years before that. make the most of the time you have here because outside of what you experience in life it all comes to an end and is meaningless otherwise.

All of existence was created in chaos and continues on a path of chaos(the big bang, space expansion, anti matter)

so just enjoy the ride and dont place a single bit of effort on what comes next, because nothing does. We are just particles that will be scattered and rebuilt into something else but out consciousness is over when we die.

you just have to let religious people do their thing, they dont want to come to terms with reality but they almost always do when they get close to death, you realize that when you are close to people who die, they almost always plead and denounce religion in the end because its just mental gymnastic to avoid dealing with the reality we are meaningless.

Truth is we don't know, some scenarios :
eternal nothingness (low probability) : a blessing.
temporary nothingness (I believe high proba) then waking up again (just like the first time) into another type of being.
paradise / hell religion scenario : blessed or fked depending on which religion was right.
paradise / hell moral scenario : not bad, depending what you did during your life.
waking up from the simulation / game : I suppose boredom is so high that you would choose to play again (would make sense since we decided to play in the first place)

lot of others.

except modern psychology can explain everything about our consciousness and there is 0 evidence or argument that it can be transferred to another "being", that is probably the lowest probability other than fantasy , even in philosophy it doesnt make much sense.

The only way you can "live on" or be truly reincarnated is by how you effect the world but you will NEVER have a consciousness again

its just another religious coping mechanism to deal with the fact that nothing is waiting for us and when we die we die. Period.

there is a TRUE circle of life. particles are constantly being broken down and reassembled, i.e. a human consuming food to feed a baby in their stomach to replicate and duplicate cells from DNA coding using the cells of consumed food which grew from reassembling other particles as food, and eventually that forms a new human which DNA coding tells the human to use their brain in certain ways based on their DNA and as soon as they can assimilate and allocate data they receive from stimulation they will begin forming their consciousness and eventually consume particles to create another living being, or not.

All we are is a byproduct of millions of years of chaos that eventually formed human beings and we will continue to be a blip in the millions, trillions, infinite amount of years of existence.

The correct answer is, "we don't know."
If I hit your skull with a hammer, your brain cells will die along with some of your memories and cognitive abilities.

Now apply that to destroying your brain entirely i.e. death, that leaves you with no memories or cognitive ability.

There's nothing to suggest that thoughts/memories live on outside of the brain.

I completely disagree about randomness and everything being meaningless, but have no desire to argue about it.

Your last statement is completely backwards though. Religious and spiritual people are much more comfortable moving towards death, and certainly aren’t likely to denounce their beliefs as they approach the end. It’s the atheists that suddenly find God at the end of the road.

im a realist

you live in fantasy

see how it works out for you in the long run

the reason you dont want to argue is because you dont have an argument, bring it on boyo im waiting

ive debated this and thought about it plenty, im ready lets go
