School is outdated

Most can work virtually, now. No reason to file in like a boot camp even as a minor.

Everyone ought to do real work they can contribute from age 14 or so, with virtual classrooms accommodating their learning styles for any further study.

Not to mention 99% do not contribute importantly to global intelligence and do not need resources designed around them doing so. Only Oxford and similar schools need this environment.

Imagine the increased labor supply from everyone contributing from 14.

Yeah honestly speaking the only school that seemed to matter was k-5, everything else might as well just be done remotely and centered around interests and strengths.

The current approach to education just feels retarded.

People are already socially stunted because of technology. You want to actively remove them during development years and sit them in virtual classrooms? School is outdated, but not the in person aspect.

The "factory model" approach of the school where it's one size fit's all learning should be shelved and expanded to accommodate different interests/skills/learning styles etc.

Just get kids to take sports programs and help them get into clubs for kids their age with similar interests n chit. They would probably have a much better time socializing there than they would being thrown into the school system.

Exactly. Plus the "one size fits all" approach has basically resulted in a lowest common denominator centered system, where everything needs to be accommodating the average dumb-chit.

They already have those champ. You're still eliminating a good 80% of their time spent socially interacting. They can't be at after school clubs/sports for 8 hours a day like they are in school. Any way you look at it you're cutting time spent with peers socializing and sticking them behind a computer instead.

They'd do real things in the freed time. They could actually do jobs or apprenticeships. Still center it around their class.

High school kids' development crashed real hard because of remote learning, setting them back two years, and I'm not talking socially, but cognitively as well.

People speak of high school and elementary school students from an adult perspective, as if the students should have that same perspective. Heck no. High school and elementary school students aren't intrinsically motivated. They're not reflective and don't take ownership of their learning. They're literally going through a day trying to do the absolute least amount of work they can do. Go full remote and they literally will stop getting out of bed.

People who aren't self motivated need to be pushed. Constantly pushed until they reach a level of maturity where they understand the value in what they're doing.

This is not to say that a lot of schools, not all, aren't 40 years behind, but remote learning is a disaster. Heck half of adult employees do jack crap when they're remote.

have to agree. and the pre-req phase of college is obsolete too. just had to take all these math courses that i will legit never use in order to be able to study computer programming. how about actually allowing people to go directly into their field of study like they do in the trades.

Pre-reqs aren't even the worst part. Just lol @ making programmers or engineers take nonsense classes COMPLETELY unrelated like literature and history.

Yes you have a point as well. I cringe at both related and unrelated alike. If you want to study something you should study ONLY that discipline. I'm actually in C.S. now and just had to take a statistics class that obliterated me due to these huge writes up we had to do. I almost didn't even want to continue afterwards. Sure statistics is useful but IT'S NOT PROGRAMMING!! I SHOULD ONLY BE STUDYING PROGRAMMING!!!

I'd like to add that a lot of students still aren't coming to school even though schools have opened. There's a 40% chronic absentee rate in NYC and that's because public schools make it easy for kids to pass a class or go to the next grade without consequence (they are forced to by the Department of Education)- so a lot of kids basically say f*ck it to school and do the barest minimum to pass and they are rewarded for it.

Disagree. General education is important. A competent understanding of history, economics, science, among other subjects is necessary for informed voting and decision making.

Look no further than the current public health crisis for evidence.
